Hi, I recently got a dv6t-se yesterday. There are 2 problems. My black plastic part of the keyboard was sticking out a bit when I got it, but I just easily popped it back in. But now there is noticable flex on the upper left side of the keyboard. Also, the lower left and right keys of my trackpad is very stiff and hard to press compared to my girlfriend's HP dm4 laptop's. Are these normal issues or should I call HP and try to exchange it?

Also, I uninstalled some bloatware and updated some drivers and now when I press the volume up and down keys the volume bar graphic doesn't show up on my screen anymore. How do I fix this? It's getting very annoying moving th cursor to the speaker icon everytime to check the volume level.

I don't know about the keyboard and the volume thing, but from what I've seen and read here, the trackpads have varying degrees of stiffness. If it's bothersome enough that it is worth the wait, you might want to exchange it, because I believe most are not that stiff.

Oh actually, I've also read here that there isn't any noticeable flex in the keyboard, so again if it's a big deal to you, it might be fixed if you exchange it.

Do note that I am not 100% sure about these, but I'm pretty sure. Figured some info would be better than none. Also, my dv6tse should be arriving early next week, so I might be able to help a little more then.

Well, I figure since I got the laptop with the keyboard sticking out, it must be defective somehow. So, I called HP and asked for an exchange. They gave me a free 2gb RAM upgrade and free 2 day shipping. That's pretty cool but now I have to re-uninstall all that bloatware and the estimated ship date is September 16. -_-

Thanks for your help though and I hope your dv6t-se comes without problems and soon!

My trackpad button is really stiff as well!! I tried samples in Fry's and bestbuy. They appear to be the same. I guess we'll just have to live with it.

HP's customer service is pretty good! Mine shipped with a half open bottom panel cover (the one for memory and HD). The representative gave me $75 credit for the inconvenience.

But I do think they should catch that with some quality control.

I tried them at Fry's as well, and one was very stiff, but all there others were very nice. So I dunno.

Yeah, it's fine HP's volume bar kind of sucks since it tends to minimize full screen apps like games.

As for your trackpad, the quality may vary on particular models. However, the way the trackpad is designed makes clicking buttons much stiffer than on most other laptops since it's not separated. On the other hand, the trackpad is much easier to use by tapping and utilizing different gestures than physically clicking on the buttons themselves. Also, HP put up deadzones (allows you to rest finger on button and move with the other hand) on the left and right clicker that sometimes doesn't work the way you want it to which makes using gestures a much easier experience.
