Hello iam interested in purchasing a DV7 soon and just wanted to ask a question on which processor is better or runs faster without useing crazy battery. I'am a meteorologist and need to run java animation loops and have multiple pages on the web at times open. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Here are the processors i like from HP but not sure which one to add to my config.

    1-Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-580M Dual Core Processor (2.66GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz

    2-Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz

    3-Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-740QM Quad Core processor (1.73GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 2.93 GHz

i5 useless less battery than i7 because of integrated graphics on the chip. In some cases uses 50% battery power.

For Battery life and decent performance go for i5, if you work with multi-threaded apps like HD Video editing or 3D rendering or latest CPU depending games go for i7 and don't expect it to be laptop anymore as you need to be always plugged in. If you can wait then you will be getting better ones i.e next generation i5 with higher clock speed
