Hello all,
I have acquired a 3 year old ZV6107wm laptop. It has an AMD Sempron 3200+ processor. I have found out that it is a socket 939 and that it is a desktop processor, not a notebook processor. I am looking to upgrade the AMD processor to a faster one. I have taken the laptop apart (for a complete cleaning) and everything seems ok. The motherboard is an HP 3085 with the ATI mobility chip set using a Radeon Express 200 graphics card. I have updated the BIOS to HP F.1c.
My question is what faster speeds are available for my unit and what processors will work with it? I contacted HP but they could not give me any information.
I am having one small issue. When I have the unit plugged into the power converter and turn it on with the battery fully charged, the computer starts but I have no picture on the screen. If I unplug the power adapter before I start it, it works fine. I can plug it back in and it works fine. I can even re-start it and it is ok. If the battery is charging, it starts fine. Only when the battery is fully charged and the laptop is plugged into the power adapter does it do this. Any thoughts?
I have to add that this is my first laptop and I am loving it! What freedom. I added a wireless router and away I go. I love sitting out on the back porch with it. This IS the way to go!!

Can you give us the part number of the processor? If it is a Socket 939 desktop Sempron 3200+ then this number should start with SDA3200******. If you can get this part number then we can find out what core/revision it is and find a faster Athlon processor whose (hopefully) microcode should be in the BIOS.

Thanks for the reply.
Using HWiNF032, the info it gives me on the processor is:
AMD Sempron 3200+
1800.0 MHz
CPU ID: 00010FF0
CPU stepping: DH-D0 (socket 939)
CPU code name: Victora
CPU platform: Socket 939
Numbrer of CPU cores: 1
CPU Bus Type: Hyper-Transport v1.02
Current Hyper-Transport Link Clock: 800MHz
L2 Cache: 256 KBytes
Hope this helps. -
This thread should answer your question...

Basically, you can upgrade up to a E4 stepping Athlon64 4000+. The newer revisions and dual cores wont work since the HP BIOS does not support them. -
Thanks miner. That is what I wanted to know.
BTW, congrats on your HP tx2500. Looks like an awesome notebook! -
As an update.......
Thanks to the knowledge on this forum, I was able to locate a barely used AMD Athlon64 4000+ with E4 stepping and installed it in my laptop. Nice speed up. Things just go a little quicker and smoother. Thanks again!
