Theoretically -- if you could only spec up one (or two but not all) of the above, which would you chose? A higher/faster processor, more ram, or a faster (rpm) or even dual HD's. I'm just trying to get an idea of what's really the most important.![]()

Depends on what the specs of the computer are.
I would say, hard-drive -> SSD = a lot better performance in my notebook, but that's only because I'm satisfied with my processor and ram... -
i would say it depends on waht u have to start with.
with everything at low, the thing i would increase from the rock bottom would be ram, followed by larger hdd followed by faster cpu. -

If it has enough RAM for the system/OS, then harddisk will be the most obvious bottleneck. A fast SSD, eg: X25-M will give most noticeable performance improvement. OS will have ultra fast startup, and apps will respond instantaneously. If you are doing a lot of processing (3D/math) then you may look at a faster processor as well. Dedicated graphics can make redraw/scroll very very smooth.

If you are starting with a new computer, I would say processor. It is relatively easy to upgrade the ram and hard drive later. The processor can be trickier.

If you already own your computer, then the order is reversed.
Processor vs. Ram vs. HD for speed/computing
