After comparing the different brands and models I have decided to buy a HP 6910p. Now I need help to decide whether to buy a model with integrated or dedicated graphics card.
What is most important for me is quietness. I will use the notebook for office applications, running Virtual Linux machines on the notebook and watching TV and movies in my sparetime. I don't play games.

What I wonder is: Does a dedicated graphics adapter offer any advantages for me? I read that a more powerful card takes workload from the processor and hence reduce the cooler noise. Is this true or is the opposite true because of the heat the dedicated card produces?

ONe thing you have to remember is that you can't ever change this part.

The dedicated cards will use up more battery while the integrated will use less. Since integrated graphics chips use less power, it will produce less heat. Also, you're not into games you said and only using the notebook for office apps and watching movies, then the integrated is more than enough. My old notebook had an Nvidia go6150 integrated videocard and it was more than good for watching 720p movies. Hopefully that helps.

*Don't forget to use the $500 coupon for anything above 1399 or something like that. Here's the link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=200680

Hopefully it works, not sure, so check it out

Thank you for the advise. So I think the integrated card would be the more reasonable solution for me!
