So I pulled the trigger on a dv6 quad today. I hope it has good enough cooling to handling what I piled into itFound a coupon for 15% off plus the 5% cash back with Discover so it came out to 879.89 with tax... think I got a pretty good deal? I went ahead and stayed with the 1366x768 screen. I think I'll prefer that for text etc. and I can always hook it to a bigger monitor... or replace the monitor later if I decide I must.

well, You could have got something better on eBay for 700. I got mine for 700 and its even got a 1080p screen and warranty left on it. I think you could have got something much better for around 900.

I've been looking for awhile and haven't seen anything with comparable specs for cheaper. If you can point me to something I'd be happy to cancel my order, but I don't want to buy off of Ebay unless it's an authorized HP seller, with a full warranty. Sure, I might find something cheaper refurbished but I was looking for new. (Also, if I decide it runs too hot I have 21 days to return it)
As for the screen, on a 15.6 I think I prefer 1366x768. I can always output 1080p to my TV if needs be.

Well you've got to give a little to get a little lol. But for 796 its a decent deal. although the new HP laptops are coming very soon so maybe you'll want to consider those as Ivy bridge is supposed to be at least 15% faster clock for clock than sandybrige CPU's.
-
well that really depends on where you look. If you can buy used then you can get a much better deal than something that is new. To me, used computers are a good deal IF you know what your buying.

I'll keep an eye out for a better deal. I think they said the shipping would be around the 5th. I have been looking at refurbs, some... but I haven't bought HP before... wasn't sure how good their refurbs are. -
and I gave away my old gaming laptop to family (not that it'll play Skyrim which was my criteria for a new one).

You did fine. You found a good deal. I just picked up a new DV6-6c47cl with the steel color case. Pretty much the same laptop as yours. I upgraded the screen and all is well.
I did not like the glossy screen. I now have a full HD matte screen. That was a big improvement. Only thing left to do is slap a SSD drive in the DV6 and it will be a nice laptop. I would not worry about the ivy bridge. Your I-7 is a pretty quick processor. Only thing holding you back is your hard drive. Simple enough to swap that out. SSD's make a huge difference. -
How are temps on the DV6-6c47cl? good? Where'd you get the screen, and what model is it, in case I feel like doing the same?
I did upgrade to the 7200rpm drive... I've never had an SSD so I don't know what I'm missing -
The DV6 I picked up has the blueray drive. I purchased a AUO screen online. Off hand I don't recall the vendor. I found a deal on new DV6-6c47cl for $700 out the door. Hard to beat that price. I did not mind putting in a better screen That was a huge improvement. Temps not sure One day I'll install the software and find out.
