I am debating between two configurations and having a difficult time trying to decide.

    Option 1:
    Intel T1350 and GO7400

    or

    Option 2:
    AMD MK-36 and GO7200

    Price is about equal.

This will be for general use, as a work laptop back up, movies, light gaming, etc.

    Which would you choose?

Even though I generally prefer AMD, if the prices are similar, you might as well go for the intel t1350. For general use, movies, etc, you won't notice a difference between these 2 processors. You probably will notice a difference between the 7400 > 7200 in gaming and the Intel part should have better battery life. Another consideration is if you'll be using 64-bit windows or apps anytime soon because the mk-36 has it and the intel doesn't.

Would it be worth the $60 or $85 to upgrade from the T1350 to the T2050 or the T2250, respectively?

For your uses, the T1350 shoud do fine. The major advantage of dual core would be in multitasking(running multiple programs, working while having the antivirus sanning in the background). The other advantage would be in programs which are multitheaded, there will be noticable benefits. In programs which aren multihreaded, performance will be the same or even slower by a bit considering they(T2050/T2250) are clocked lower than the T1350.

As someone who "had" a Intel Core Duo T2500 2.0ghz machine, and returned it (for various reasons), and purchased the below to tide me over till the next round of machines with hybrid hard drives, Dx10, comes out, etc.... I would opt for a Duo Core cpu for the reasons pointed out by Miner above.
