    Purchasing a non HP battery?

    hey guys, is it ok if i buy a 6cell battery for dv2000 that is not from hp? thanks

    No...if you read through the battery guide you'll get more info, but the bottom line is that the specs, materials, or quality could be just different enough to cause problems.

    Is it a "generic" battery or a bonafide HP-stamped battery? Many outlets on the internet are selling both, like Ebay. You don't have to neccessarily buy the battery from HP for it to be an HP-approved battery.

    Just like the power adapters, the batteries are sourced from other than HP anyway from a dozen manufacturers. The difference is, the one with the HP stamp has been built to their tolerances. The same can't be said of the "generic".

    I would not recommend that. As you may have seen in the past few months there have been cases of exploding laptop batteries. HP has fortunately not had this problem so they are doing something right with their batteries. If you use a Non-HP battery and have a problem your warranty will not cover it. You might save a few bucks upfront getting a Non-HP battery but I think it would cause you more grief and could even be dangerous so go ahead and bite the bullet and get the official HP battery.
