    hi!

i bought a hp pavilion ze4907ea about 3 years ago and i'm considering an upgrade..he has a 1.4ghz celeron processor (celeron m)and 256mb of ram in it (kind of rubish :budget: yeah i know).i'll upgrade it to the max (2 sticks of 1gb each - pc2100 266mhz) and here is where my doubts start to rise..
each stick costs about 100bucks..do you think it's worth the money byuing 2 sticks?:budget: or is it so slight the difference between 1256mb (yeah,in this case i'll keep the old one and the new one running) and 2gb that 1256 will save me $100  and the performance will be almost the same?

the second doubt is considering the video card...onboard stuff..kinky...i mean...i already have a rubish memory (256) and these guys still take 32mb to share with the video card.my doubt is...after the upgrade, am i able to pump up the amount of ram shared by the ram to the video c (let's say until 128mb)? yesterday i've been running around in circles on the bios and found the "video memory=32mb" sentence...but it doesn't seem to let me configure it...i mean..is it in auto mode or something?i'm kind of hoping when i upgrade, the amount of shared ram increase somehow...

so...can anyone help me on these issues, please?

    thank you

    ps.great forum

Putting 2GB in that celeron lappie is no point. There are very few apps that take advantage of more than 1GB. So, I would not go more than 1GB. But again not pc2100, but pC27000, as all current celeron lappies support pc2700.

Yes, you can keep that 256MB + 1GB or just buy one 512MB ( for under $25 for PNY memory at outpost.com) making 756MB which is more than enough for most things.

And I think you can increase the Video memory in the bios for atleast 64MB. It is bios option ( May be F10 to got bios during bios initialization, the key varies from laptop to laptop).

I think it's one of those chipset.... 815 and/or 915 if I remember well, that starts at 32mb of shared video memory and will automatically adjust to 64 or 128 (can't remember) depending on demand

Yes, since you have only 256MB, it won't let you increase more than that. But once you drop 1GB, you can configure that. But Bios should automatically pickup more.
