So if the model was something like DV1XXX, and there's like DV1330, DV1060. Are these just the same laptops with different preset configuations?

Currently, I was jsut planning on picking up the DV1060 cause I found one for about $1100cdn, while the DV1330 is about $1699. Are there that much of a difference between these two laptops?

Yes, pre-configured versions sold through retail/distributor channels always have a model number, but the series name(example dv,zd,zv...) and the first number(1,4,8,6...) remains the same.

The dv1330 probably has higher spec than that of the dv1060 which probably explains the price difference.

I can tell you that starting on from DV13XX onwards, the speakers have been changed from Hardon Kardon to Altec Lansing and the graphics have been upgraded to Intel's GMA 900 from Intel's Extreme Graphics 2.

Has anyone head-to-head compared the newer Altec Lansing speakers to the Harmon Kardons? I've just ordered my 2nd DV1000 to replace the one I bought last year, and the new one will have the Altecs. I liked the HKs, so I'm wondering if I'm going to hear a difference? How bout the GMA 900, can you tell a difference? I don't use mine to game so I didn't have a problem with the Extreme Graphics 2, just wondered if I will see an improvement.

To my mind the Altecs are very good. they are really loud for a laptop and preserve quality of sound even when to the max. I have them on my zv6000 and I am very happy about them

I wasn't able to compare both speakers, but I can tell you that the Altec Lansings are very good, probably as good or better than the Harmon Kardons. The newer GMA 900 graphics will be faster than the IE2 graphics, but probably not by much.
