Does HP refund the retail price of Vista when it comes pre-installed like Dell does. Any-one know/tried this ?

I do not know of anyone who has tried it, but somehow I doubt that HP will go for it. Good luck.

Its not even a retail version that you receive when you purchase a prebuilt computer. You are receiving the OEM version of the OS. The OEM version is made for computer manufacturers and supposedly can only be used on the computer they were originally installed and activated on. You can purchase a OEM version of Vista or Windows XP from Newegg or any other computer reseller. So to answer your question, I really doubt they will give you a refund or credit for the OS, especially if you already bought it and are using it. If you want a computer without an OS go with something like a Sager, they offer you the option of buying the laptop without an OS.

HP will just ask you to customise one with FreeDos instead, which might end up costing more than pre-built models, so getting Vista effectively makes it cheaper.
