    Amazon is selling the :

HP Envy 14-1110nr 14.5-Inch Relic Laptop PC - Up to 3.45 Hours of Battery Life (Carbon)

How is this different then the regular Envy 14s? Is "relic" just part of the name? or is it an older model :) and how is this deal? Thanks!

11XX suggest it's the newest revision (if you can call a newer cpu a new revision), it's basically the same thing. I wonder where the 'carbon' stands for though..

I live in California, so no tax from amazon here. I don't know about Texas.

"carbon relic" is the grey/brown color changing effect & floral dot pattern that all the envys have. depending on how the light hits them they either look grey like carbon, or rust colored like an old relic.

Do you know if you can still return that within 21 days or so like buying it from HP? I may cancel the order I just placed on hp's site and get that since it looks like I'd get it sooner from Amazon.

You can return it if the box is 'unopened', or if the unit is doa for a full refund, or else there might be restocking fees. ooo and thanks e14 for the info!

I ordered this over the weekend, it should arrive Thursday (10/7). I will let everyone know what the deal is... I had been eye'ing the Envy 14 for some time and this deal from Amazon seems great, especially with the newer processor.

I got it, but I'm getting a replacement from Amazon. When i first opened it, there was a little scratch on the lid, the touchpad seemed kind of loose, and the backlit keyboard light was uneven as many people have stated already. Besides that, everything seems alright. It can handle SC2 on medium settings pretty smoothly, but anything more seems not as smooth.

It depends on the screen. With the 1600x900 Radiance display, SC2 @ 1600x900 will need to be turned down to medium settings to keep things smooth. With the 1366x768 Bright View display, you could probably get away with settings on High.

I don't know who mentioned Ultra. I'm sure you could turn a few settings up to Ultra, but not everything, regardless of the display.

You could get away with high on the 1366x768 brightview, but for me its not smooth enough to play. Medium seems best

Medium is best on my 1600x900 Radiance. I get 30-60 fps on medium, and this is with 4v4 multiplayer. I've tried it on high and even though it starts off around 50-60 fps it dips down to 15 fps late in the game when there are alot of units.

I honestly don't see that much of a difference between Medium and Ultra. I'm able to run SC2 Ultra on my Desktop (i7 @ 3.8ghz, 6GB, 5870) and the difference isn't that huge.

The Envy 14's default power saving plan will reduce your 5650 dedicated graphics power by about 1/2 when it isn't plugged into the wall, so make sure you have it plugged in or change the power plan to maximum when unplugged.

I got it over the weekend. There was some noticeable "light leakage." No matter what angle I view the screen from there is a noticeable amount of "gray" on either the top or bottom of a black screen, to the point where I'm just not happy with it. See this video, not mine but identical problem: YouTube - HP envy 14 Brightview screen

I emailed Amazon Friday night and the new one was sent out almost immediately AND

The second one is here but is so far booting to a gray screen and that's it.

Pretty disappointed with the quality control...

And now of course Amazon is out of stock with a 2-5 week back order, so no replacement, splendid.

Yeah, the estimated Ship Date is Nov. 2nd - 12th. I spoke with Amazon and the woman confirmed they were on back-order from HP.... Maybe HP has decided they will ship Amazon some working Envy 14s this time.
