Hi,
My laptop had been shipped yesterday and finally arrive today. I just have a quick question regarding the HP rebate. Since my box doesn't seem to have a direct UPC because it's a CTO model from Tech Depot, I was wondering exactly which label should we cut out and send it to them. My best guess right now is the one with mutiple small upc codes listed for separate parts. Thanx in advance for the help even though the question is kind of stupid.

I got the same laptop from officedepot.
Mines shipped today..hopefully will arrive by tmrw or thursday.
Which rebate are u exactly talking about?
2 are office depot for $125 each & the other is a $100 from hp.
I will try figuring it out when i get it.
Also interested if someone else has the answer. -
Hi,
well first off, glad to know I am not the long one ordering a laptop during the special labor day sale OD have. Second, I was pretty surprise regarding the shipping time since I think they used FedEX overnight as the method of shipping so u probably going to get it by tomorrow. As far as the rebates are concerned, I am using the 2-125 from OD and the 100 from HP. In regard to the UPC code they want from the box, there's not one main one, but one large sticker compose of several small upc of various parts. I think this is the one that we suppose to send in along with either the receipt or the invoice or both. Do post a message or so once you get your laptop then. Thanx in advance for the response.

So anybody else have dead pixels on their new HP ZV5000Z notebook from the labor day sale? I just received mine the other day and when I use a black background I have (1) totally white pixel and (8) other pixels that aren't displaying solid black (kind of light bluish/grayish). This is on the 15.4" 1280x800 screen. This typical for HP quality control or do I just got a bad LCD?
I called up HP support and got a support rep with an Indian accent who never heard of OfficeDepot before and said HP would replace the screen if it had more than 4 dead pixels. I asked where his call center was located since he never heard of OfficeDepot and all he would say was that it was outside of the U.S.
Trying to decide if I should get this LCD replaced or just use OfficeDepot's return policy and shop for another brand. -

That's very unusual. I'd get HP to replace the screen. I have no dead pixels on my 1680x1050 res screen.

If you want to be totally sure, you can call Office Depot customer service (for stuff to be mailed to them), as they have people who are supposed to know the details of how their rebates work.
If what your sending in is supposed to get mailed into HP, you can call the HP Shopping Customer Service at 1-888-999-4747 to find out exactly what they are expecting to receive from that box.
Cheers,
Stevo

Well, checking it again, I think I FOUND A DEAD PIXEL ON MY SCREEN. It's red against a black or blue background once I carefully look at it. I check the rest of the screen and this is the only one that seem obvious to me. What do you guys recommend as the best way of solving it? Should I call up HP or go straight to OD and ask them to fix the problem. According the earlier post, it seemed like u have to have 4 dead pixel or more to get them to replace the screen for u. So does that mean you have to take the laptop back to OD while the 14 days return policy is still intact? Thanx against for the response you guys and thanx for pointing up the dead pixel issue.

Just received my office depot CTO laptop aswell. I got the 15.4'' wvu wsxga+ 1680x1050. I searched for dead pixels using the black screen technique. I couldn't really find anything. Is there any other ways of testing out for dead pixels? When i look really carefully, a few pixels are like not fully black but when i look at a different angle it becomes black. I don't think that is a dead pixel because it ultimately changes color. This laptop is pretty awsome though. This screen is soooo sharp its ridiculous. Its a little small on some websites but is fine for most everything else. I didn't get the integrated wireless but just purchased a wireless router and a pc card(both 108Mbit D-Link). Works GREAT!
For the rebate: I would cut out the one on the main box. That is definately the UPC codes. I'm gonna wait a week or so before I send the rebates to make sure i don't get a lemon laptop. Use and abuse this baby to make sure everything is running A.O.K -
Just a followup to my 9 pixel problem on my lcd. I ended up sending it in to hp. Received a call a week later saying the screen didn't warrant replacement since it wasn't defective enough. I told them the india guy said I could get the screen replaced if I had more than 5 dead pixels and I had 9. HP rep said they'd check again. Called back a few days later to check on the notebook and they said they weren't going to replace the screen under warranty but if I wanted to pay $620 they'd do it. At that point, I told them to just ship it back and I'd return it to Office Depot and the rep said fine--HP paid the fedex shipping both ways. Ended up returning the notebook to Office Depot and getting my money back and then used the $750 off coupon Dell offered a few weeks ago and got a great deal on a 700M.
So be careful when you deal with HP. If you get a defective LCD from the start, take it back to the store and don't even deal with their warranty service.

Thanx for the update harve. I would return my laptop back but their 14 or 30 day period way expired already. Did you get the full refund back or they give u a partial refund or so after the restocking fee? Anyhow, I still planning to keep this laptop since beside the one quite unnoticed dead pixel, everything else seem to work pretty well on it. No point in going through further trouble just for one dead pixel then. Anyhow good luck with the Dell.

I spoke with the Office Depot store manager where I ordered the notebook from and explained that the screen had 9 defective pixels and if I sent it in for repair it may go over their 14-day return policy. She gave me her business card and wrote a note on the back saying if I wasn't satisifed with hp's repair I could still get a full refund.
The cashier doing the return wasn't too happy since she had to do a line-by-line item return of each component in the notebook instead of just scanning the bar code on top of the configure to order page. My visa did get fully credited back--including the shipping and I didn't have to pay a restocking fee. -
You guys had me worried for a minute. I just checked my zv5000 screen, no dead pixels, all nice and black.[8D]

my OD zv5000v is great thus far. Abit heavy for carrying it around campus and the power adapter is like a brick...but it gets the job done. Best bang for the buck.
as for dead pixels...i have the 1680x1080 whatever widescreen. I can't notice any dead pixels..could be because i shelled 150 more for the screen.
HP indian support does SUCK. No despuiting that. I have delt with those incoherent reps and looks like HP is cutting alot of corners to save money, giving them a greater competetive edge in the notebook market. It will ultimately kick them in the ass sooner or later and will lead to their downfall. [8D] -
Thanx again harve for the feedback. The deal went pretty well with OD. The only thing that bother me through that transaction was having to end up paying both the shipping and the taxes cost. It be nice if they could cut the shipping cost out the way and just let us pick it up at the store straight up. Anyhow I guess you got it all straighten out with them then. I should think of that first but it was kind of too late for my course. Good luck though.

I have seen someplace that dead pixels can sometimes be made to come back to life with very very gentle massaging.
