If I buy a 5.1 surround sound system for my TV, and use HDMI out to connect my envy to the TV to play a backed-up mkv movie, will I get surround sound from the speakers?

    Thanks for any input!

You would have to connect your Envy to the surround sound amplifier, and the amplifier to the tv.v The amp will process sound and send video to tv.

You would also have to make sure to use AC3filter to passthrough DTS and ac3 codecs so that they do not pass the sound as stereo to the amp.
