Hey... I just got my dv2000z and I think I messed up something

After got my laptop, I tried to install OS again with the windows cd (10$) which came with my laptop. I thoght that the window install cd has all drivers (graphic, sound, quick play...) in it and that is the easiest way to remove all bloat softwares. But that window cd doesn't have any slipped drivers and I tried to recover all by using recovery partition ( D drive) . But when the laptop boots up, F11 function doesn't work.... OMG... I already fomatted ( only c drive) but I didn't backup anything.... What should I do ... Is there anyway to load or activate that recovery partion "D"?

    Thanks

I am in the exact same position... anybody know how to use the HD recovery with the compaq v3000z? The supposed F11 thing definitely is not working.

I decided to return that notebook. I chatted with HP tech. support about this thing but they told me there is no way to recover without backup disks ( NOT windows recovery disc BUT discs which should be made from installed HP software). They suggested to me return that notebook or they can provide free delivery laptop service. Anyway, I decided to return.

Guys.. be careful...When you buy new HP laptop, please please make backup discs using installed software first. Without those, recovery partition "D" is useless. The windows CD can not recover to its factory setting.

Yeah, you will need to burn those DVD/CD's without which any reinstallation is not recommended.

Can anyone torrent some images of the recovery DVDs (or otherwise send them)? I bought mine online, and the idea of returning it just to get a recovery DVD sickens me. I would be more than happy to paypal you a few bucks for your time. Can't believe HP can't just put drivers for their crap online somewhere.

I tried copying the recovery partition contents onto C (so the boot.ini would run) and it allows me to run the compaq recovery. Problem now is that booting from the HD ALWAYS takes me into the recovery console. Wish I could get into a command prompt to just edit the boot.ini back... but short of a floppy drive (which I don't have), not sure how. The fact that the boot.ini still runs me back into the recovery program makes me wonder if the recovery is working correctly, but can't figure out a way to browse the C drive now, since I can't get into a command prompt.

Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance!

You can edit the boot.ini file from windows. System properties, advanced, startup and recovery, /edit/.

Bart8314, were you able to install Windows? If yes, then you can find the drivers online. True, HP does not offer them yet on the support page but you can find them with the producers of the hardware.

But I can't get into windows without reformatting... it just always jumps me straight into the recovery tool.

Anyone know where I can at least find a network driver that works? That would at least make it useable short term... I would be willing to take the time to find the other drivers...

You can try and boot from a usb device (make it on another computer) Yet, I'm not sure where this will bring you after the boot and what you will be able to do.

Yes.. I could install windows XP. But another problem is quick play buttons on the laptop. They don't work. Even though I could get drivers for graphic card and others from their producers, I don't want to spend anytime for this... It's a headache.....

Anyway, when I called to HP for getting return athorization number(RAN) I reordered the same laptop. But after the call, I went to my order status and found out that the rep. ordered wrong laptop...Holy..Cr..
( I ordered turion X2 64 but they placed a order for sempron ...) So, I called them again and tried to modify or cancel that order. But they told me that cacel is not possible!!!. and goes.... If I take that sempron laptop they will give 50$ coupon... I said "NO" and I am still waiting their response .... What a long day... How long should I wait for another laptop....

Uh, sorry to hear it messed up with the Sempron order...Just don't return yours but the new one :).
I know it's a headache to search for drivers but it was not so long ago when searching in some shady places was the only way. I suppose HP will upload the drivers online pretty soon. Until then, why don't you post what devices you need drivers for. I'm sure many people will respond with files and/or links.
The quick play is tricky. You must have a separate partition for it (I hope you didn't delete it during reinstall) and you must install
(credit to TPH in a neighboring thread).

I can install XP... just need a working network driver... anyone have the faintest where to get one? The hp site lacks any drivers for the v3000z... tech support wanted to send me two recovery cds that would cost me $108. I told them I'd rather return the laptop than do that.

I must say, my brother's Dell was a lot easier to wipe clean than this. Seriously considering just returning the thing. If anyone could help me find a working network driver or share that magical SwSetup folder with me... it would make my week. I assume someone must have a working dv2000z or v3000z out there... can you look up your driver information and help me out?

    Xichekolas..

Why don't you return your laptop and get another one. Even though it will take sometime, with your new laptop you can avoid any headache.. That two recovery disks for $108 is totally nonsense.

I think HP R&D center is working on making bloatwares which are not easily cleaned. By doing that, those softwares slow laptops.. Finally costomers will buy another laptop more often... just kidding...

If your wireless card is Broadcom maybe you will be able to use this driver It is for v2000z. It may or may not work but you can try it before the US guys wake up and see your post :)

Here's the 5.0 version of the same driver (the above was 4.0)

If I have to return it, I'll just wait around for another company to offer what I want... The fact that you can't use the hardware with whatever OS and software you want is ridiculous. If HP would just provide drivers on it's website then none of this would be a problem. I ordered this thing over three weeks ago, it finally gets here today, and they still don't have drivers for it posted...

They give you any time frame as to when your replacement would arrive?

Vassil... thanks for the info... somehow I managed to get back the SwSetup directory in the last few minutes. I had copied that recovery partition's files over my xp install... then done a full recovery, then formatted and reinstalled xp... and somehow I seem to have gotten the recovered files. It is late (3am) and I'm not entirely sure how that voodoo worked, but I'm taking advantage of the situation and backing that directory up to my other machine and then burning it for further assurance. I got the wireless to at least work... going to take a break to sleep.
