I bought an hp dv6000t a couple days ago, the specs are in my sig. I just went to the hp website today to see if they changed anything, and they did! You can now have vista already installed, i thought this would occur the 30th, and today is the 27th. Also it comes with FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support. With the specs im getting, this makes the laptop cheaper, and it comes with vista! but no stupid tv remote, i didnt want that anyways..

so what i am asking is if i could stop my order over the phone (i just ordered a couple days ago), and get a new one now!

If i could that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance. :D

Did you order your from HP.com? If yes, then you have a 30 days price match guarantee, so if you don't want to return it you can call and ask them to credit your account the difference.

But if you want to return & re-order you can do that as well. You have 21 days to decide from the day the laptop arrived.

You probably won't even have to cancel your order. Didn't you just order this system like yesterday? Call HP and let them know your situation that you just ordered the system but would like the upgrade to Vista and the DVDRW instead of the TV Tuner.

    Give them a call ASAP

o sweeeeeet! i think ill do that! thanks!

one more question: should i get 1.6 ghz core 2 duo with 2 gb of ram, or should i get 1.83 ghz core 2 duo with 1 gb of ram (i could always upgrade to 2 gb of ram, but not the processor)? What do you think?

get the 1.6GHZ with 2 Gigs of ram, on Vista, you NEED the 2 gigs of ram. Systems these days are so fast, don't worry, your 1.6GHZ Core 2 Duo will not be the bottleneck of your system, I promise.

Gamermatt, make sure you get Vista Home PREMIUM not BASIC, if you get Basic(the one that's included) you will not be able to use Aero.

I would say, its better to get 1.83 ghz core 2 duo with 1 gb of ram. And like you said you can upgrade the RAM easily and it will not void your warrenty.

i know ill get premium, but 1 gb of ram will be ok right? because its cheaper to get 1.83 ghz core 2 duo with 1 gb of ram... and if i get 1.6 ghz core 2 duo, i cant change that... and i heard that it has a worse fsb, too... hmm...

You can never upgrade the processor. (Technically you can but eh) However you cannot upgrade the RAM either without replacing the current memory because if you order 1 GB of RAM they will put two 512 SoDIMM sticks in the Laptop. And as far as I know all HP Laptops only come with 2 bank slots for RAM.

For performance I'd propably go with the 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo and 2 GB Of RAM. The performance increase between the different Core 2 Duo's GHz wise is very small unless it upgrades the L2 Cache or FSB.

In short if you can afford it I'd recommend getting both a Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz and 2 GB of RAM.

i know... i know... the upgrade from 1.6 ghz to 1.83 ghz also does change the fsb from like 533 to 640 ?? something like that...

maybe i will get 1.83 ghz with 512 mb ram, and buy 2 gb ram from frys, for $160, found here:

    http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4815980?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

If i were to do that, i would upgrade the ram right when i get my computer, and i would try to sell the 512 mb ram...

do you think that would be a good idea?

Exactly,, so you would have to throw away your 1 gig of ram, which is such a waste of money.

Listen bro, people say "oh you can always upgrade the ram" But I know since you're on a tight budget, you won't be able to upgrade for a while.

The 2 GB of ram on Vista will help you A LOT Vista uses all your RAM unlike XP and it cache's and everything zips along.

The difference between the 1.6 and 1.83 is so minimal, seriously. You're still getting a Core 2 Duo, you won't feel the difference of that 200 MHZ, but you will feel the difference of that extra 1 gig of ram.

Trust me, just get the 1.6 with 2 GB of ram, I mean ultimately it is your choice, but trust me on this one, you'll be fine. The CPU will not be the bottleneck of your system.

but the 1.82 ghz is only $50 more then the 1.6 ghz, and also the 1.83 ghz has a faster fsb...

i think im going to try to get the 1.83 ghz and try to upgrade the ram from 512 mb to 2 gb from either frys or newegg...

That newegg link is for Desktop memory, not Notebook.

Ehhh, Fine, I can go with that idea, Get the 1.83 Ghz, and get 512 of ram, then buy 2 Gigs of ram from newegg (definitely get it from newegg)

That would work great, and I highly suggest doing that then.

Let me find you some good ram from Newegg, one sec...

There, that's the ram you need, go with Corsair.

But, there's a problem.. You can't order Vista Premium and select 512 mb of ram, it won't let you (Unless you can call HP and have them override that and say I have 2 gigs of ram laying around at home that I would like to put in)

yeah dude im not doing that, it cots $225 more to get 2 gb of ram then 512 mb of ram, i would be saving almost no money...

so what do you think about the processor? does 1.6 and 1.83 make a big difference considering that the fsb is different too?

Upgrading the RAM from HP is pretty cheap when you shop around for what 2gb upgrade kits are going for. If you sell the 1gb the notebook came with it will about be the same difference, but it seems like a lot of extra hassle. I kind of wished I ponied up for the 2gb on my computer now and the upgraded processor after being in a situation identical to your own. I just went with the faster CPU and went from 2gb to 1gb.

Gamermatt, here's the deal, you'll never have top of the line.

I have T7200 2.0GHZ Core 2 Duo 667 FSB. In a couple months, the Santa Rosa platform is coming out with 800 FSB, see what I mean? You can't compete with technology.

If I was you, I'd probably wait and save up like 50 bucks more and just get the 1.83 GHz and the 2GB of ram.

If you absolutely have to get it now, I'd get the 1.6MHz and 2GB of ram.

You seem like someone that just does basic stuff on the computer. You're computer will be fast, don't worry, the FSB and the couple MHz more is nice and stuff on paper, but unless you're not doing some HIGH INTENSIVE stuff, the 1.6 CORE 2 is just fine. The only difference you'll see is on Benchmarks.

It's up to you, if you can get your hands on just a little bit more money to get the 1.83GHz and 2 GB of ram, then wait, if not, go with the 1.6 and 2 GB of ram.

Maybe we can get some more opinions for you, but that's what I would personally do, especially considering how Vista could really use the 2GB of ram

I don't think so, I'd cancel your order with HP, and just wait till A. you have more money, or B. A coupon comes out, or a rebate, or prices change.

I know how much you want this laptop and how impatient you're probably getting, but you'll probably be happier if you wait.

Well i talked to them over the phone, and they said that it would be VERY hard to cancel the order, and if i wanted to change anything on the configuration, they would still have to cancel it. They said that we would have to go through a long process to cancel it, and that they chance of them being able to cancel my order is 50/50, and if they couldnt then i would receive 2 laptops and i would have to exchange the first one. My mom didnt want to do this, so i had to just keep my old order... :(

i guess ill get vista shipped to me later... o well...

Don't worry too much about it, you're gonna love your new computer.

Vista still needs some time for real driver support, so there's no rush.

Dang, 128mb of ram and safe mode everytime?

Bro, you are gonna absolutely LOVE this laptop then. I upgraded from a SONY PCG-FRV25 with 2.6GHZ, 1 gig of ram, ATI IGP-345M, and I'm in LOVE with this laptop.

    Enjoy it, you deserve it!

Also, you don't have to throw out the word "illegally" there.

Even if you download and install Vista from the internet, you still have to Activate it, so it's not THAT illegal. Also, just send me a PM once you get Vista and I'll help you with any problems you have.

sweeet, thanks for all the help and encouragement :D

I know i will love my computer no matter what, because of what im used to... using safe mode and not being able to connect anything via usb ports (no printing), and also no WMP or any sound... if i have to print something for school i will type it in safe mode, and then go in regular mode to print it, which takes an unbelievably loooong time!

i know i will be completely satisfied, im just not sure if i will upgrade to vista just yet, i think ill wait

and yeah i do all my website work and all my other work with flash, dreamweaver, fireworks, etc with this horrible computer that is not even mine!

i have been desperate for a new computer, and i have finally saved all my money to have enough to get one! (im only 14)...
