    Yes, it's compatible.

The only difference between DV5 screens is manufacturer, gloss/matte, and resolution. Otherwise they are all interchangeable.

Best Buy doesn't know much about... anything really.

All DV5's use the same internal components. The numbers after the dash indicate preconfigured models. Some of which are retail configurations. A DV5-1000 is the base configuration for custom configured versions bought off HP's website.

In any event, see the PDF version of the service manual, (which you'll need anyway if you are going to do it yourself or have Best Buy do it for you):

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01550108.pdf

    Start on page 76.

The only thing you have to worry about are the exterior panels. They differ in color from silver to white to bronze.

i also have one more question that i prolly shoulda asked first but i dropped something on the laptop yesterday which caused the screen to go out. It caused the back to dent and the screen to crack. When you try and turn it on you can here it botting up and all the lights come on but the screen just stays black im correct in assuming that its the screen right?

Yes, both the screen and the backlight are FUBAR. Other things might crop up later with a drop like that. But since you have the service manual, and you seem handy enough, you'll be able to tackle those things should they arise.
