Is there a list of common problems with the 3d and non 3d ones?

I'm weighing a decision on buying one, but don't feel like wading through 244 pages of posts to find out the common issues with them.

Ty for any and all help :)

All the HP Envys have some issues with graphics switching although it's not with every game

Yea, I knew that, but there was also problems with the dvd drive not ejecting, the multiple monitor setup, and crappy keyboard.

I was wondering if there is anything else really. I'm weighing my options on laptop choices here and tbh, all manufacturers seem to have dumped QC. :/

I don't have one (yet) so I can't say, but I think the drive stuff on the HP Envy was really with a batch when they did the Ivy refresh. The Envys that are one generation older I don't think anyone had this problem. By now that's probably cleared up.

Some of the 15 in buyers have noted defects upon delivery like dented USB ports and a loose keyboard. I got the 17 and have no such issues.

The 3D model cannot use the HD4000 so no switchable graphics or WIDI and bad battery time, the non 3D has Enduro issues (low usage in games), and cannot use Eyefinity currently.

I have noticed a very quiet noise floor in my headphone jacks. When I use my headphones I can hear the ocean (like in a sea shell).

With HP you will have to always deal with drivers. They do not update them, so you will have to go it on your own (with help from some great people here).

I'm confused; I thought the Enduro issues had been fixed with a patch by now. So you're saying that there are STILL issues with it? How on Earth is everyone here dealing with that?

We are not, and not happy.

But if you look at other threads there's a solution on the way *cough* from AMD to deal with all this nonsense.

    Heyho...

If you can get your hands on a 17-3090NR 3D (the previous build), I have no problems what so ever.
Everything works, abet, the AMD 7690M XT needs a non HP firmware update.
All the problems you read about are the Envy 3000 REFRESH,,,,,being the 3200 series,,,,,Its the Ivy Bridge Processor that caused all the grief.

eBay, Amazon (others), may have a 17-3000 3D (non 3D), available with the mSATA SSD + 750GB HDD + INTEL 2760QM......[you want this processor!]
What ever config you choose, the 3000 series, both 3D and non 3D, have no issues, everything works fine.
Get the SANDY BRIDGE 2760QM processor, with the 80GB Intel mSATA, you wont regret it.

The discrete GPU in the new one is significantly stronger though. . .

The machine is a piece of broken hardware crap, have you not read any of the posts?!
No WiDi, the graphics HD card does not work, Infinity Eye support for 3 monitors does not work.
Have you been sleeping through all these problems?!

Most people don't buy laptops for multiple monitor support. That's a very tiny niche of customers.

Can you elaborate on the multiple monitor issue? Is it just eyefinity that doesn't work? Or the entire thing? As in, if I were to plug 2 monitors in (not for gaming), would it work?

HI IVX......if you were to want two external monitors on your notebook.....you would have to plug them in the Display Ports. The adapters would have to be either DVI or VGA. I am not sure if non-active would work or not..... as I only have 2 active and they work. You CANNOT for some reason have an hdmi connector involved in the mix........either straight to the hdmi port or via DP adapter. Once a hdmi is connected it knocks out the other monitor or visa versa. So yes you can have 2 external ...plus the notebook screen. You CANNOT have the advertised 3 external. Eyefinity DOES NOT work. AMD affords nothing in the installed software to control the desktop displays.

This is my experience and so far it seems to hold true.

Ok, thanks man. I don't think eyefinity support really matters anyways. There is no way you'd get decent framerates running eyefinity on a 7850m. That's interesting though, not being able to use the HDMI and DP at the same time. At any rate, I only need 2 external monitors at once, so it doesn't affect me. As I understand it to be, passive DP adapters should work if the external monitor is =<1920x1200 60hz.

    1. My first 17t-3200 had speakers that continuously made a LOUD audible buzzing sound.
    2. SATA port #2 does not seem to be 6Gbs compatible when I connected my two OCZ Vertex 4 SSD to it. Port #1 is 6Gbs compatible.
    3. Onboard video seems to take control. My Windows Experience Index is 6.8. My 2010 Envy 15 with an AMD Radeon HD 5830M video has the same score.

    5. Is true. Only the first SATA port (closest to the outside) is SATA III.
    6. Windows Experience Index is bogus anyway.
