When I go to the HP business site, the nc6400 is listed as having a video card with 64mb discrete or the Intel whatever (around $1500). However, I have found a link to the nc6400 on the HP in which the video card listed as 128mb, not the 64mb, for $1800 ( http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/Mi...t/&srccode=cii_5766179&cpncode=07-11170678-2). The problem with this one is that it is a specific pre-configured laptop and I cannot alter the processor or memory to decrease the price. Further, I found on newegg an nc6400 with an ATI x1300 which is listed as having 256mb for $1340, but I dont think that it carries a full 256mb since its labeled with hypermemory and I believe that means its shared.

Im confused because through three different methods, I have found the same model with a video card with 3 different amounts of memory.

Can somebody sort this out for me? I would prefer to buy through HP but I dont want to spend the $1800 on the laptop that the 128mb video card comes with.

    Thanks.

The laptop is customizable with two types of video cards - ATI x1300 and Intel GMA945 (check it here: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12446_na/12446_na.HTML) The ATI card has dedicated memory (discrete) plus hypermemory so that it is expandable up to 256mb (the rest is borrowed from system RAM). Intel's card does not have dedicated memory but only 128mb shared. Clearly, the ATI version is preferable, as well as more expensive.

Ah I see! So the x1300 can be configured to have 64mb or 128mb discrete graphics, with both totaling 256mb. Is there a link to the customizable nc6400 with the x1300 with 128mb discrete (like the link that I provided) instead of the 64mb that is listed on the main page?

Also, how is the x1300, both with 64mb discrete and 128mb discrete? Can the 64mb on run a game like Civ 4 smoothly or should I make sure to get the 128mb version of the x1300?

Look here. You can customize a model here or pick one of the preconfigured ones.

Oh ok, I found the one you can customize with the 128 mb discrete.

    Thanks.
