Last summer I bought a Compaq Presario V4000 laptop. Initially the fan was rather quiet, you'd hear a slight whoosh of air and that's about it. Eventually one day I turned it on and the fan made what I can best describe as a grinding sound. I was told by uncooperative tech support that it probably just needed spraying. Since then it's been sprayed several times, both by me and the store I purchased it from, yet it's still somewhat noisy and this grinding sound still seems to persist somewhat. Since the only people who could probably tell me make a business from doing the exact opposite, I'm hoping someone here could tell me if this does sound to simply be a dust problem or something far worse as I fear.

Hmm...The fan could be dying. Did you get anything stuck up in there? If you laptop is out of warrenty it might to take it apart and clean that part out.

Nothing as far as I'm aware. The computer was bought because I was starting university and was basically always sat on my desk in my room in the halls. It initially started only about 2 or 3 months after I bought it.
