    hey,
i've been looking at HP/Compaq laptops for college. im not a huge gamer, but i do play games occasionally.
do you think 64 meg geforce 440 will work for me for the next 2-3 years?
also, a 4200 RPM HD... is that really slow? i have a 7200 in my desktop right now, so im sure i'd notice a difference.

i've looked at compaq r3000z w/ amd 64 3400+, 512 ddr (1x512), 15.4 wsxga and 12cell battery.. it's like 1350, which is not bad at all. it does have the geforce card in it though, and im afraid that might not last me long enough.. and the slower HD as well...

if you guys can give me some input on what to look for, id appreciate it. i really would like to get the 5400 rpm HD, and if possible a radeon video card (got one now, and LOVE it). 15.4 is also a must cuz i have a lot of DVDs. i'd like to stick with an amd64, i think that will be better for the next 3 years than p4 w/ HT.. plus i heard p4's overheat?

Specifically what games would you be playing? The harddrive speed doesnt affect gaming I dont think. You can always upgrade to a faster harddrive in the future. You can get a 60gig 7200rpm hard drive from www.zipzoomfly.com for about $189. This site was recommended by TechTV.

Unless you are playing games that are already 1-2 years old, the Ge Force Go 440 or 420 is acceptable. Anything newer, and it will leave you wanting.
