:hi2: I am thinking of getting either of the two but I still have some questions that I want to be clarified.

first of all, I heard that HP removed the option for switchable graphics in the BIOS on the Envy's. Is it that still the case today? if so is there anyway to switch between onboard and dedicated GPU through a software?

How long does the battery life last while surfing on the internet (non-flash) through Wifi with the screen brightness set to atleast 40%?

I heard that the HP Envy 17 uses a dual fan design and the old HP Envy 15 uses triple fans. Does the new HP Envy 15 use dual fan design or just single?

how loud and hot does both get while casual browsing and heavy gaming?

the HP Envy 17 3D uses a 120hz panel. does the HP Envy 17 non 3D run at 120hz?

is the IPS panel on the HP Envy 15 significantly better than HP Envy 17? also does it still suffer from pale colors? if so does calibrating the IPS panel fix the issue?

how much faster is the HD 7850m GDDR5 1GB compared to HD 7750M GDDR5 1GB on real world games?

in terms of upgradability and modding, it the CPU and Deicated GPU soldered onto the motherboard? if not what kind of socket does the GPU use (MXM X.X).

I would really appreciate if someone could bring answers to the question above.

    thanks :)

The answers above are well put, and I have nothing really to add except I prefer the 17" (which is exactly what I bought) because this is my ONLY computer and I wanted a larger screen for gaming.

The monitor is decent enough, but probably not the quality of the IPS monitor.

i also had to deal with school work and i thought 17 in would be too big. if u dont need to to be that mobile i would also recommend 17,it has more powerful gpu, better audio and bigger
