Hey,
I've noticed after a few weeks I bought the Verve, that sometimes when I'm just surfing the net the fans will all of a sudden kick in VERY loudly! As if an engine is starting or something. Then the sound will go away, and come back every so often. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Also the palm rest on the left side feels a lot warmer than when I initially started it up (to a point where it's pretty annoying and can't leave my hand there for too long).
Help?![]()

HP's have a tendency to get warm at the left side due to the HDD being under there. It's a known problem due to design and there's not too much that can be done. I would recommend buying a laptop fan, they can cool the laptop a few degrees and does help with the fan noise and the warm handrest.

Oh I see. Dang.
I guess I'll look into the fans...are you referring to something like the Targus chillmat?
Also would cleaning up my computer's unneeded processes help? And if so is there some guide for HP laptops to doing this?
Thanks for the help -

Less processes > Less CPU work = Less heat created. Probably not dramatically but still helps.

Is there any point in investing in a Targus ChillMat? I can get it for 30 cdn this week at bestbuy, but im not sure how loud it will be, nor how effective...

It doesn't make a sound and it cools my Asus up to 5 degrees. I highly recommend it.

Are you using that on an Asus? Where does the heat come from on that make of laptop, because the only reason I would purchase it is if it will lower the heat of the left palm on HP laptops. Anyone know? Or does it not matter at all.
I keep having to lift my left palm up periodically because the heat gets to me. -
A cooling pad will only help cool the bottom really.. youll barely notice a difference up on the surface but it does somewhat help.
Cooling pad, Undervolting and re-applying processor goo are your only choices. You laptop shouldnt run that hot unless the processor is being over worked. Mine gets warm but not enough for me to take my hand off it. -
I used it on a dv6500tse. It did cool the entire laptop, but like flipfire said, it cools the bottom more, which is good for the internals of the laptop.

Thanks for the help Lithus and flip! Just one more question? How loud and bulky is it? I understand that there are 2 models...and read that AWE11CA has major noise problems and even resulted in someone throwing it in the garbage...problem is is that this is the only one avalaible at Bestbuy in Canada.
I was looking for the one I saw in Chaz's review of how to cool a notebook, I think that the model starts with a P or something. -
i have a dv6338se (the white special edition laptop) and my fans come on all the time, too. and they aren't that quiet either.
i've been told it's normal and not a defect. -
The ChillHub is very loud. The ChillMat is pretty much silent, much more so than your laptop.

Try pluging your cooling pad to an external universal adapter. Switch it to the highest voltage probably 12 volts it is way better than using the provided USB which only has 5 volts of power
