Just curious how much ram my Envy 14 i7 CPU Q 720 can run and what the maximum frequency of ram it can hold.
Also, currently, in CPU-Z, it says the ram is 667 mhz, is this correct or is it really 1333 mhz? And how do I access this in the BIOS?
When having 6 gb of ram, is there an advantage to putting the 4gb in slot 1 or 2?
Thanks in advance.

hey there, i7 should run at 1333 and i believe i5 runs at 1066, it has 2 dimm slots so theoretically you can fit 2 x 4gb but that would be very expensive, 2x2gb is standard and more than enough for any need. as this is ddr ram so dual channel it is running at 667mhz x 2 so 1333. no problems there. if you have i 4gb and 1 2gb ram then i doesnt matter which dim you place them, however by doing this combination you lose the dual channel advantage when you have 2 identical rams, have a look online of what i mean, the performance hit however is insignificant. hope it all helps

So the maximum however is 1333 mhz, it will not recognize ram with higher frequency? -
and could it fit say 2x8gb?

so in theory, I could have 16 GB of ram?

Computer memory upgrades for HP - Compaq Envy 14 Series Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com
this says otherwise... I want make sure this laptop can handle 16gb of ram below
Newegg.com - CORSAIR 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model CMSO16GX3M2A1333C9
can anyone confirm or deny before I buy the 300 dollar worth of ram :/ -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
2 x 8 GB kits start at over $250 on Newegg, so anything over 8 GB is quite an investment. -

It specifically states 4 GB per slot. I'm not sure if this is actually the case, since I don't think there were any 8 GB DIMM's on the market when the Envy 14 came out so the docs might have been written based on what was available at the time.
If you feel like you need 16 GB and you can get a no-questions-asked return policy, go ahead and give it a run, but I wouldn't necessarily expect success. -

I've found that Crucial is sometimes incorrect for max RAM, which it is in this case, because, although it says that the ENVY 14 can only take 8 GB of RAM total, the product specs on the HP site for my specific model say that it can go up to 16 GB. I'd recommend checking HP first before Crucial.
Question: What is the maximum amount of ram my Envy 14 can run?
