So when I'm going through the options to select which type of screen I want, I have these options:

    1) 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1440x900) (default option)
(BrightView improves color contrast in your images and video )

    2) 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)

    3) 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
(Ultra BrightView offers an improved color gamut by 72%.)

I want this laptop as a desktop replacement, something to use at school and be able to play games on.

I don't know which screen to choose or why. Typically, I like having a large resolution so I have more realestate to work with.

Is the 3rd option a lot better? The ultra brightview?

I was thinking of going with the 2nd option, as the resolution is higher.

However, I have ZERO expertise with LCD screens and what the differences are.

I'd appreciate some help with the choice on these, please.

Again, I want it as a desktop replacement, school use and gaming.

    Thanks in advance!

the ultra bright just adds an additional lamp to make the screen even brighter. The higher res screen is the best option, it has more real estate and everything will look very clean and sharp.

only issues with the higher resolution is that everything looks smaller so it needs some adjusting to and with games, a higher resolution means that lowering the resolution so you can get more fps is less possible due to the lowest resolution possible being higher than in the 1440 screens

Thanks for the replies folks, I appreciate it. :)

Anyone else have some additional information for me, to help make my decision?

I'm still thinking of going with the max resolution option of 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050).

I'm wondering if anyone has either of the other two options and are wishing they chose something else.

For those of you that have purchased this machine, which display option did you choose and why?

If I'm not a gamer, is the $50 for the WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) worth it?

it depends on what games. WoW supports the 1680 resolution so you wont get a performance decrease. My friend has the ultrabright and i must say its too bright. Im considering a 9500t or a macbook pro, but havnt seen the 1680 resloution to make the choice. Ultrabright=terrible
