I ran the demo at almost all Medium settings, some low. The game looks pretty nice even at those settings. I recommend going all the way down to 800x600 res for best fps though.

Here's a video of someone running it at almost the same settings, just so you can get an idea of what it will look like. Note: I still have Vista installed and it still ran good.

Congrats on your new notebook. As for the drivers I got mine about 2 weeks ago, with the 163.75 drivers. I definatley recommend you update them.

If you've never played Half-Life or Half-Life2 I highly recommend it. You can go out and purchase the Orange Box, which includes Half-Life2 and Episodes 1 & 2, Team Fortress, Counter Strike Source, and another puzzle game. You can also go out and purchase Half-Life for probably under $20. You can also go take a look at Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

If you haven't played these games yet go out and get them, they are amazing!

counter-strike source!!! best game ever(well at least the only one I can play without losing interest quickly). I'm not into games to much. I just went ahead an bought the orange box. Anyway I have the same setup I've had the best results with the 169.04 driver from laptopvideo2go web site. There are clear instructions on how to install them. You really do need to upgrade your video drivers...big difference. You may also want to try installing rivatuner and increasing the hp's stock core/mem speeds. 600/1200/450 works well for me. You will get around a 500 point increase in the popular benchmark program 3DMark06 from stock drivers and settings. I would also like to recommend www.tweakguides.com he has a great vista setup/tweak guide and nvidia control panel setup guide.

I had problems at first being the noob I am but, ive managed lol. Go to laptopvideo2go.com and find the latest drivers, download that along with the modded inf.file which is right next to the driver download once thats done, you'll have two folders on your desktop the driver folder and the inf. folder, extract the driver folder, then copy and past the inf. file into the driver folder. (Note: You have to uninstall your old drivers from the control panel)

reboot the computer and proceed with the new install. Reboot again and there you go.

I've heard it was short as well, but the reviews for the game are amazing. I'm getting it in the next week and I'm excited! Anyways, even though the storyline might be a little short I heard the online experience is amazing as well, and we all know that online play can go forever. I've been a huge online game player since Counter-Strike Source, and the PS3 came out as well.

Yes. I have all settings to medium, and certain things turned off and low, it runs pretty good. I find the game still looks great, even at the lowest settings it wont look any worse than far cry which still looks good after the years.

Just update your drivers asap. The stock ones provided with HP are terrible, they do not show the true potential of the 8600gs.

Yes. You will see a jump I would think. I have 2GB and as I've heard the rule of thumb for even casual gaming is to get at least 2GB of ram.

I have no problem running Crysis on my 9225 with the medium settings as high is just a tad too taxing on my measly 2 ghz cpu & 256 mb Nvidia card.
