I'm looking at buying an HP zv5405us from Best Buy. I want to know if I can upgrade the DVD/CDRW to a DVD+/-RW after I get it and if I can upgrade the CPU later.

Yes to both questions. Swapping the optical drive is no big deal, and won't affect your warranty. Swapping the processor will void your warranty (if HP notices), but it's fairly straightforward, from the posts that I've read. I believe someone has even swapped out the Athlon M processor for an Athlon 64, since the M processors are just crippled 64's (basically).

    Good luck.

HP must not mind since they posted the manual online:

    One more question.

Which extended warranty should I go with? The BestBuy plan cost $249.99. And the 3yr HP is $179.99.

I plan to buy the one through HP. I'm not familiar with the current Best Buy plan. I know it used to be very generous, but I think they've tightened up on that from what I hear.
