Hey everyone,
this is my first post as everyone can see,
I'm also a new owner of laptops (as in this is my first freaking laptop)
I own a HP Pavilion dv2550se
it's kinda weird, so I'll probably need some schooling on this laptop.
yeah, its actually REALLY weird because
-my box says dv2550se
-the sticker on the screen says "HP Pavilion dv2000"
-when i go to my computer it says "HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC"
so, i don't know if i got jipped or anything, but i hope someone could school me and explain the weird model labeling thing for me.
Not to be bragging of showing off, but I have experience with computers and built computers for my family and etc and i basically got the idea on how to keep a computer clean and how to keep it fast.
SO what stupid thing do i do when i get my first laptop ever? i delete a whole bunch of crap, and optimized it so it won't take a long time to startup (You know, its vista...). Well, it worked and its working fine. Its fast and clean and..well its a great laptop i love it!
The problem is, i deleted the Quickplay program, because I have no use for it, I find using a different media program is better. I don't want it back, but I was wondering if you are able to customize those blue touching buttons on the laptop. you know..

those 2 buttons, I've looked around and I cant seem to find it. is that the "HID keyboard device"? Verve owners can u customize those buttons to launch different programs? or its that and its that, and im stupid cuz i deleted the program its programed to.
I also think i deleted the webcam program....
whats the program called for the webcam for this Verve? I was hoping my AIM 5.9 would support the webcam thing, but it turns out i don't know how to activate it..i think i need a lil help on that.
another question, Verve owners you know how annoying that big battery pack is, it sticks out and its annoying and ugly.

wow right?
Its probably the only downside to the laptop besides the dust-collecting problem. Well, my question is, is it bad to run the laptop with the charger/power plug or w/e its called without the battery? like i take out the battery, and just run the laptop with the the charger plugged onto the wall, is that bad? i hope not..cuz thats what i do..so if its bad, plz tell me now!
sorry i typed alot...but i hope u guys won't get too lazy to read all of it![]()
thanks in advance
i love this place

Welcome to notebook review forums!
Your computer is a dv2550se from the dv2500 family from the dv2000 series
You can't customize the function of the quickplay buttons (unfortunately)
It is perfectly fine to use the computer plugged in without the battery -
howdy... did u by any chace purchase ur puter at best buy??
Best buy is currently working with HP to release, the verve special edition
dv2550se and dv 2500...
if you notice the top of ur computer probably says special edition (hint numero uno at the fact that its kinda werd).
hint two is that if you open up the specs for ur computer and/or lok at the box, ull notice it has one of the aove labels and not "dv 2000."
so its not a dv2000, its just in that casing... the dv 2550 has an optional fingerprint reader... so if you were given that option, then its probably one of those... if not then its probably the 2500.
regarding the battery: its a twelve cell battery miss =]
thats a good thing... it will help keep ur computer from over heating insanely fast as it would, considering its specifications and the fact that it does run vista (probably premium if its the verve)... it also helps conserve the battery life and it gives it that nice litte tilt for when u have it on a desk... a agree tho, it is kinda ugly.
i did not delete quickplay... the "blue buttons" should automatically be set to work with any player that may be open... ive tried it only with windows media player (when its already open) so far and it seems to work just fine.
web cam: im sure u can use ur web cam with another start up program... generally ur IM client should prompt u to set up ur cam and mic from the very start... i know for a fact that the camera on this computer works just fine with the msn messenger (aka hotmails IM feature)...
AIM: m sorry to say that i am yet to figure this one out, HOWEVER... my sister just know asked me the same thing... so it doesnt seem to be compatable... STILL ill try find out in just a second... and if ur willing to wait and check back, i should have an answer for you within a couple of days iof not today =[
sorry i couldnt be of more use, check back to see... -
sdmtg, I think corry29 meant the 2 blue buttons that are labelled "quickplay" and "dvd". He wants to know, as well as I do, if there is anyway to program those to open another program, such as Windows Media Player or PowerDVD instead of QuickPlay.
To corry29, I know the 12-cell battery is ugly but I think you should keep it on. Just in case you have a black out, at least your notebook will still be running and you can save all of your data and close your applications and safely shut down the notebook. My friend used to take out his batteries as well and while he was typing up an important paper, the power went out and so did his notebook. Word only saves every 10 minutes, but he did lose quite a lot of typed up work. Just a thought. You could also just buy a 6-cell high capacity battery if the big bump is really bothering you. The 6-cell will sit flush with the laptop, no bump at all!
Also, the webcam should work fine with AIM 6.5 right? Try using the latest version, 5.9 is pretty old. I know it works with Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 and WLM 8.5. I don't really use AIM anymore.
