    Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum, looks good lots good info. I have a question.I just recently bought a Compaq R3230CA here in Canada. so far I really like it. I plan to upgrade the hard drive to either a 40 or 60 GB drive with 5400rpm with 8mb cache. If I can come across a good deal on a 7200rpm I will grab it.

What I would really like to find out is whether I can put in a different video card to replace the Geforce 4 Go 440 64DDR. It is still an okay card and will do me fine but if i could do a bit better I would give it a whirl if cost is right. I am also wondering if you can add a DVD-RW drive as well to replace my cdrw/dvd rom drive.

Some of you may wonder why I may not have bought a model or 2 above if I want to swap these items out, well the answer is I got a really good deal and if I can not change the video card or the dvd drive it is fine as well as the unit will do me as it is.

Video card: no. It's soldered in place.
Optical drive: yes, easily. Been there, done that. The drive sled is held in place by two screws on the underside of the case. Use a #0 Phillips head screwdriver. NEC, Pioneer, Toshiba standard slimline notebook drives have been tested.

Video cards are the 'Golden Goose' of the laptop industry. If you could swap them, who will buy new laptops every year, with newer versions of DOOM 3,4,5,...etc. coming out !![ :D][ :D]

what brand is normally good. They have a internal drive for sale for 54 dollars NEC brand but it is for a desktop. What about external drives where is the best place to buy them
