HI - I think I'm going to take the plunge on the HP1000t soon. I'm thinking that over the Dell XPS140 or 600m (no Centrino Duo option). I'm not a huge gamer (more of a DVD / music guy) so I'm not too worried about the integrated 950 graphics. But here are my questions:
    - how does the 1000t Brightview screen compare to the Dell TrueLife screen as far the nice glossy screen to watch DVD's?

    - what brand of DDR2 memory does HP use? I'm thinking about ordering the 512, then buying a stick from NEgg, but want to be sure it plays nice with the 1000t, and would it be worth it to just upgrade from HP instead.

    - I also noticed that the largest hard drive offered is 100gb. I'm leaning towards a Seagate 120gb SATA drive for $240 on NEgg, but would there be any problems installing the O/S, Quickplay, etc?. Any idea why HP doesn't offer the 120gb on the 1000t but it does on others?

    Thanks for the help.

I'll be surprised if you have any problems installing QuickPlay and the OS on your new hard drive, it should be quite easy.
You should also go to www.dv1000forums.com to ask your questions, they may be able to help you more.

Thanks for the vote of confidence rah, LOL. I think we can handle the questions though.

    1) Dell is coming out with other Core Duo models, so depending on your timing, you might wait to see those.

    2) I think HPs Brightview is pretty good, but they don't have the best viewing angles. For watching a movie head on, you'll be fine.

    3) I don't know which RAM they're going to use with that model and it will probably fluctuate, I'm sure that's a multi sourced item. If you buy a name brand, you should be fine.

    4) I don't think the effort it worthwhile for 20GB, but that's up to you. You'd be able to restore directly to the new drive.

Thanks Brian, good points. I read about the viewing angle on the 1000 models, was hoping they would fix that on the 1000t version. The 100gb hard drive upgrade thru HP is $140 - now I'm not sure if it's worth an extra $100 bucks for an extra 20 gigs. But I must say, the remote control option is very nice. I may try to hold off a few weeks now for the prices to come down, maybe even see if Dell offers the 600 in dual core.

At this rate, it could still be before the dv1000t starts shipping at all ;)

DV1000 Forums? Are you kidding me? Do they have to come out with a new message board for every single HP model? ZV6000/R4000, DV1000, and even the ZD8000 all have their own forums.
