I recently ordered the dv2000z with the AMD 64x2 (TL 52). Various reviews/reports have been disparaging the AMD processor as 'slow'. I would appreciate it if someone with a 'z' model would comment on the relative speed they have seen using this model. Perhaps the 'slow' is geared more toward heavy users, as I will be using my laptop for typing notes, researching on the internet and movies/music.

Also, could both 't' AND 'z' model owners please list the battery life they are getting from their respective models? I would really appreciate it.

My 'z' should be arriving (looking at watch) tomorrow, and I just wanted to see if the differences are significant enough to justify an exchange.

    Thanks.

I think a lot of the issues surrounding it being "slow" come down to the fact that they compare a 1.66GHz Tx2 with a 1.8GHz or a 2.0GHz Core Duo. The 2000z also uses (used?) 533 RAM whereas it would be faster using 667. I really wouldn't worry about it being slow. Based on what you'll be using it for, you should be plenty happy with its performance.

I agree with Ross, I think you'll be just fine. I have the dv2000z and I've been thrilled with it so far. I have two desktops I use for my heavy work (one for music and the other for design), so my laptop is more for day to day stuff (web surfing, media, communication etc) like you, and the performance I've been getting from this thing is easily enough. I plan on actually loading Photoshop on it at some point for when I don't feel like working at my desk, and I don't think it'll have a problem handling that either. I wouldn't guess it's great for heavy gaming (I don't like gaming on a notebook anyway), but that's about it.

As for battery life, I unfortunately don't have any specific numbers yet as I haven't been directly monitoring it. I will say it does seem to be a good bit shorter than I would've expected, but maybe my expectations were too high.

Ok. Sounds good. I already wrote HP's CEO to request an 8 or 9-cell battery for the dv2000 series. ;] As long as it is near 3 hours I can't really complain. I should be getting mine today or tomorrow, so I can't wait to try it out. I hope the keyboard is relatively quiet, I hate the rain of keystrokes you here in my classrooms.
