I see $999 anyone else?
Upon further inspection I should be more mad in the fact that they are charging $200 for the 1600x900 screen which brings the old config to $1200
what the hell...hopefully this gets fixed in the next few hours. I was gonna order one tomorrow.
Edit: So $200 for envy 14 screen upgrade but only $100 for Envy 15 to go to 1920x1080, thats some bull crap right there.
-
That sucks. I guess HP might have had to increase prices due to so many ppl RMA'ing, constantly asking for discounts, and other crap. I'm glad i ordered mine a few weeks back. I guess your best choice may be to order via Ebay from someone who doesn't want it anymore or something.
-
oh for gods sake... my config is now a $100 more than it should be. RAAAAAGE
-
-
-
woo!!! i ordered mine when it came standard!!!!!
-
this makes me feel better about spending the 1200
-
all this means is that you can downgrade your screen and save $100. This doesnt mean you are saving any money if you were planning to get the nicer screen anyways, which most people were
-
-
Well time to use my complaining skills tomorrow with HP sales rep.
-
-
it cost more now if you get the radiance screen..... Ordered my comp on Sunday and if I order the same thing today it be ~ 100 dollars more.
Same savings also.
-
-
This sucks. I hope your complaining skills are top-notch.
-
guys another question... if my cousin brings the envy 14 to canada from the US and pays taxes as he declares it on the border, would i then have to pay taxes/import duty again if he ships it to the uk?
-
Why does he have to declare it? Just say its your laptop.
-
went to vietnam and brought a couple laptops to give to the family and just acted like it was ours. of course I didnt bring the boxes though lol.
-
Wow this is crazy, I am so glad I ordered mine yesterday. This $100 increase would have been a deal breaker.
-
If they're going to charge $200 for the 1600x900 screen, even at a $999 starting price, that makes the Envy 14 less of a value and more of an overly expensive laptop.
I think the Envy 14 was appealing to the majority of its consumers as it was a premium laptop that wasn't exorbitantly expensive. -
-
man, this sucks. I really got screwed by cancelling my BCB 30% order in order to get the SSD. Dangit! I can't believe its up $100.
-
And the only reason people were buying this was for the screen. With a underclocked GPU and normal screen the e14 is just one big overpriced laptop.
-
They raised the price right after reading this, I don't believe it was a coincidence either.
The Plastiki Docks Down Undah - Page 2 - The Next Bench -
This was not a price cut, it was a price hike. Remember all the crying and outrage at the 1099 starting price as opposed to the stated 999? Well now people have that 999 price point. But for the vast majority who get the upgraded screen they are actually paying more. Price Hike.
Remember this poll?

(btw, with current changes, could use an unlock) -
-
They raised the price hours after reading that, there were complaints about prices there as well as the ATI. It could of been a coincidence but it seems like cause and effect to me.
-
-
Now-now folks, had to delete a few posts.
Anyway, HP always does something like this after initial release. The change pricing , add/delete options, etc. So I wouldn't think anything cause and effect.
It is what is, is what it has been, for a good while now. <---D'you like that? -
This does make me feel a little better about my situation though. I missed BCB but got 10% student discount and didn't have to pay an extra hundred for the screen.
-
-
Envy 14 now costs $100 more with the old standard screen
Envy 15 no longer can have an i7 and starts at an old i5.
I was going to order my ENVY 14 with a SSD today, that option is gone because I can't afford it with $100 tacked on.., -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Wow, that is pretty strange!
Hopefully it means they are preparing to drop the E 15 gen 3 on us. -
?? i just ordered my 15 and if they drop a new one im going to be pissed. Mine has the i7 though. What the heck!
-
maybe they are changing the 15's and 13's and they will have backlit keyboards now....Just saying...
-
sweet. my laptop i ordered cost a 100 dollars more now
sorry guys that this had to happen.
-
Hp continues to disappoint me. I really hate this company
-
-
-
ditch hp.
my envy 14 came in screwed up -
Do you think those of us that ordered before the option of getting a lower resolution screen could approach customer service with this and ask for the difference, or at least half of it to be refunded?
I would probably say..
"Hi, I noticed that your envy 14 now comes with the option to reduce the screen resolution and lower the price by $200. I would have taken this option if I had the chance at the time of purchase, and upgraded to a Solid State Drive. I don't want to RMA the machine, but could you refund at least half the difference, say $100?"
Does this make sense to you guys? I'm trying to refine my approach.
p.s. My pricing logic is flawed on purpose. -
-
well, he mentioned he would have chosen an SSD over an upgraded radiance screen so its not totally jacked up. But I'm still not sure if they would bite since the SSD is still $115 more than an upgraded radiance screen at $200.
-
if you guys want to avoid the extra 100 dollars price hike, theres one selling on ebay brand new with the radiance screen, i5-450, for 1241. With bing cashback and no tax it should come out to about 1140, this should be worth it since HP is selling it for more anyways. heres the link
-
That price change indicates to me that they are trying to push people to get the non-radiance screens which are likely in good supply while the radiance supply is a little low. The $100 delta was likely not enough of an incentive to get the lower resolution screen. I would also hazard that HP was selling the radiance based units at launch for a little lower than they wanted because they did not have any of the regular screens. So, take it as it is, but I think that we simply got a deal on the radiance screens for an interim and now it is back to their intended pricing model.
-
By now changing the pricing, people are able to afford the envy 14, and probably won't care about the lack of radiance display.
In other words. HP sets the perception of the Envy 14, then swaps the specs and makes it more affordable, thereby supplying both a competitively priced laptop, and a perceived HQ system.
Make sense to anyone else? -
Didn't the Envy 14s for other countries have standard non-radiance screens though? Don't know about Germany, but I thought the UK folks were complaining cuz of that
-
The guys over in Germany got 1600x900 panels as well. I am not sure about the UK, though. -
They still haven't started selling the 14 over here yet, disgraceful -
Bottom line, the fair market price is whatever someone is willing to pay for the item at a level of supply the manufacturer feels comfortable. If the Envy 14 demand ebbs a little more than HP expects with these new prices, they will lower them. There is no conspiracy going on, just standard supply chain economics. -
i5 back on the E15, and it looks like they dropped the price on it too.
If they would just give it switchable 5830 graphics with a backlit keyboard i'd be sold.
Queue ANGER from all of you. Envy 14 starting at $999 now?
