Everytime i talked to HP support about my hopeless Quick Launch buttons they said "'the BIOS update which hasn't been released yet will fix everything" i just found the BIOS update on the HP website and flashed away and as i expected, nothing changed. Is HP ever going to fix this problem?
-
you sure its not a hardware problem?
-
Yes because i'm sure if the buttons were dead they wouldn't light up or anything...plus the whole panel shouldn't work if it's a hardware problem but on mine the wireless and volume buttons work fine

The flash update on hp for the dv5t is actually decieving...
it seems like an update because it came out on the 26 of august...
but actually...all dv5t come already flashed with f.09...so it isn't an update...
it flashes to the same drivers...
for quicktouch...the only thing people have done that actually works is reinstall all the drivers...
make sure you install all THREE drivers for it to work...however...you don't need quickplay to run just install it
in the swsetup folder...the drivers are located in the swsetup/qlb .......swsetup/qpw and swsetup/qtouch....
reinstall those....quicktouch shouldn't be erratic if software is right.... -
just tried that, doesn't work

my problem with mine is simply the fact my mute button just stays red. I have just tryed installing those drivers on hp.com and nothing worked. I also tryed taking the battery off thing and it didnt work as well.
-
nothing works, i've tried everything, the battery thing, updating the drivers, reinstalling them, my last hope was the BIOS update and that didn't work either...the sooner we learn to live without the QuickLaunch luxury the better

I only have a problem wit the Mute button being stuck in orange/mute....restarting the "Audio" service corrects that until you reboot. The wireless stays orange every now and then also but still works and wil eventually turn back to white
its annoying but I've almost learned to deal with it....my screen went blank once, i hope thats not a common occurrence....i shut it down, popped the battery out and held the power button for a few secs like sum1 here recommended -
how do u reset the audio and does it actually make the mute button work or just stop it from going orange?

I'm almost sure that the problem is hardware, no matter how it manifests itself via the software- I really believe that a cable comes loose over time and gets/sends bad signals back to the motherboard and the SW only reacts to it.
Over the course of the last two weeks, my mute and volume slider LEDs come on either all the way or not at all, and its triggered by me carrying the laptop around (it changes after every powerup after being moved). When any of these buttons aren't lit, you can't operate any button on the panel, not even the ones still lit.
One of these days when I'm really bored I'll open my machine up and reseat the cable and that'll fix it (for a while, anyway). -
I was having the same problems, and here is what I did to fix them...
- Uninstall "HP Quick Launch Buttons," "HP Quick Touch Buttons," and then "HP Quickplay."
- Reboot.
- Install the newest "HP Quick Launch Buttons" driver from HP's website, version 6.40 F1.
- Install the newest version of "HP Quickplay" from HP's website.
- Reboot.
(Note: Do NOT install "HP Quick Touch Buttons," forget all about it.)
That's what I did, and now they work just fine. The only side effect is, the God awful clicking sound doesn't work, and it doesn't display the "Volume" slider on your screen.
I think it's better without the "Volume" slider and annoying click sound though. -
try installing the drivers directly from the hp support page and then see if windows update can find any updated drivers. after i downloaded and installed drivers from the windows update, the problems with my quicklaunch volume and mute keys went away.

quicklaunch buttons can be really annoying as hell. Thats why i moved to a 64-bit version of windows if that would fix the problem but didn't .. now the quicktouch update in 64-bit won't let users have the "volume OSD" in the screen .. u adjust the volume, sounds were there, but the volume OSD ain't.

kcrudup: i'm sure it's not a hardware problem because, like u said, the lights would be dead if it was...mine are all lit up but (other than the wireless and volume) completely useless!
JackTheRipper87 & Wontons: I already tried the driver updates and it didn't work :-S
Guntraitor Sagara: since wat u tried didn't work i aint even gonna bother
thanks for the input every1
Quick Launch Buttons...i updated the BIOS and surprise surprise, NO CHANGE :-(
