I am confused about the functionality of Quick Play. I thought the point of it was to be able to listen to music, watch DVDs, etc. without having to boot windows.
Mine does not do that. When I press the Quick Play button, it boots Windows and I have to get up and enter my password to log on before Quick Play will launch and I can listen to my media. Is this normal?

Well, I dont think its normal. I would suggest downloading the latest QuickPlay and see if that helps.

Yes, if you have Vista preloaded. No QPD for you.
-
QPD? What does that stand for?
I have already tried to download the latest drivers...no go. -
QPD = Quickplay Direct - the bootable part of Quickplay. When HP started offering Vista they also updated quickplay to version 3.0 and decided to drop the bootable part. So, any new HP machine with Vista pre-installed does not have this feature.

Sorry...what he said. On systems preloaded with XP there was a small partition (1gb) that housed a mini version of XP (XE, PE, MiniNT, whatever) from which was launch Quickplay. It had/has a smaller footprint and booted/boots reasonably fast.

Is HP aware of this?
That really sucks. I had an old HP laptop that did something like this and I loved it. I was really looking forward to this again. -

Don't know. I managed to keep my QPD partition and Vista by doing the following:
Reformat my hdd with C/D partitions.
Install XP Pro retail version to C.
Install Vista on D.
Backup XP and Vista on C/D (used True Image).
Restore disk layout using HP XP Recovery Set (Now C, D and X) where X is QPD.
Restore XP retail install to C (no MBR)
Run PartitionMagic to resize C/D partions (50/50 split).
Run Vistabootpro to create Vista BCD.
Restore Vista backup to D.
Presto! QPD, XP, Vista -
I have Vista 64 on my machine and can still boot to QP

Did it come preloaded or did you install it yourself?
-
Had to install it myself after I wiped my HD and installed Ultimate 64 full edition

Well then, there are at least 2 of us running QPD and Vista. Am curious though. On my setup (DV6000Z), the new BIOS (the one for Vista) has an issue with QPD when running on battery. Do you have the latest (Vista) BIOS loaded and have you encountered any problems?
Update:
A member of Neowin.net has what he thinks is a solution to the no QPD with Vista issue, for those that need it.
The full link is here. The post relates to installing XP on DVxxxxT series notebooks, but if you search for "Installing HP QuickPlay & DirectPlay" you'll see a italicized paragraph concerning Vista. He has not tested his theory.

The post also contains info on creating a slipstreamed XP cd with SATA drivers included.
