I was wondering if any of the other HP/Compaq owners use QuickPlay and if so when/why. I just got a new HP laptop and haven't found it very useful and so I'm wondering if I'm the exception or the rule.

In XP it may be of some use if you have the bootable portion (my Compaq did not). Otherwise, it is just yet another software dvd player like any other.

I like it because its an easy way to play dvds from your hard drive just by pointing to the video_ts folder. Also, its the only thing i know that will record video for the integrated webcam. In fact quickplay isnt bad at all for dvd playback.

Ah, never thought of the webcam (as I never had a unit with one). As for playing vob files from the hard drive, even Media Player Classic can do this if you have a dvd codec installed (although picture quality is nothing to brag about in MPC). ;) lol

Agreed, the quality is decent in Quickplay, similar to oem PowerDVD.

I'm an MPC user, and didn't realize it had subpar picture quality for DVD. How is it with DiVX/XViD files compared to the others?

Well I ran an XVid avi through both MPC and WMP11, and it looked slightly better in WMP11. For dvds, neither one is much better than the other.

I use it with my TV Tuner to record HDTV and play PS2 Games.
