Hello!
I have just installed XP, after removing Vista. The laptop was working fine! I then tried to install Quick Play Direct Play (HPQPDP). The Setup completed fine. It then restarted, but when the Windows XP Loading bar comes on the screen I get a BSOD 0x0000007B.
I have had a look on here and seen a few other cases of this. Possible due to Sata and the BIOS. The partition was not formatted and was assigned the X: letter.
How can I get this to work?
Thanks,
Stephen

Are you trying to install QP direct on the dv9500(dv6500 or dv2500) series?? If so then QP direct doesnt have the necessary drivers for your system. Since HP stopped offering QP direct for Vista, systems which shipped with Vista only do not have their drivers integrated into the QPD setup. Thats why you are getting that BSOD.

Thanks for your reply
I'm trying to install it on a DV9500. I understand that it's not fully compatible but people have been able to get it working from what I understand.
I downloaded the HPQPDP as it wasn't in my SWSetup folder.
So now how can I boot back into Windows? Will fixing the MBR work? Anyone else know how to make this work?
Thanks -
But anyways, a quick repar using the XP CD should allow you to boot into the system. try 'fixboot' and/or 'fixmbr' to set it to defaults at the repair console command prompt. -
Thanks.
Will do that.

That is the link for QuickPlay Direct. So what I have done is installed XP and all my drivers. So does QuickPlay Direct contain specific drivers for each model or something.
Would it be hard to add the drivers like you have mentioned? Is there a tutorial hiding somewhere.
I have found this info: (will give it a try)
Hi there, hear is a brief hint to guide u..
After completing the QPD setup, do not restart the notebook till you go to the disk management in the control panel, assign a drive letter to the QPD partition and browse it. make sure you Unhide hidden system files so that you can copy your Win XP boot.ini info from C: and paste it as additional option in the QPD boot.ini file (i.e the QPD partition should be like a dual boot). save and exit. go back to the disk management and remove the assigned drive letter. U can then finally Restart the system. In case it cannot boot to quickplay direct, u can safely choose the option for your Win XP and boot it flawlessly.......
the boot.ini for your QPD partition should look like the following after ur modification..
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Embedded" /fastdetect /maxmem=256
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
wish it will be helpful

What else can I try?

Anyone?

Looks like you will have to re-format since the XP repair didnt work. Did you try both fixboot and fixmbr commands?
Also the person from the link you posted seems to using a dv2000 series notebook which was supported by Quickplay. As far as trying to merge the drvivers goes, I havent tried it but it should be possible but would require some skill, I dont know if you want to do that. AFAIk there arent any guides for such a procedure. -
Thanks for your help =)
Will go and re-install.
Can you recommend any software like Media Center to Watch Live TV + Program Listings + Record TV. I don't have Media Center, and I don't like the feel of Nero.
Thanks! -
Anyone?

sb123, any luck in finding a solution to the SATA driver problem on booting Windows embedded QPDP 2.3?
I found some posts on other forums, including copying some registry entries from XP Pro to that of Embedded and modding the boot.ini, but still no luck on SATA issue it seems.
Would anyone recommend putting QPDP 1.0 (Linux based) onto a dvX5XX series, or would it still have the SATA problem? Though I think it's limited to playing music only from the Shared Documents folder, is that right?
Thanks. -
Sorry.... given up.
