I have the dreaded ribbon problems.
If my power button fails before I get back home I understand I can power up the computer by the quickplay buttom. Now the laptop does start when I use the quick play button and i get the 4 icons, dvd, music, movie edit thing and windows symbol. When I click on the windows icon windows does not start up, Is there something wrong?
    Can you help ?
    Thanks

    What are your specs?
Do you have QuickPlay Direct or QuickPlay Windows?

    don't have that.
I may have to resort to just closing the lid and let is go into standby if the power button goes dead.

Actually i down loaded sp34444 from HP and it seemed to work. All I do now is hit the quickplay icon by the vol on off just above f6 and it turns on and right to windows.
All that flashes up is a F10 recovery 1 then goes away.
So Im happy for now until I get this thing fixed.
    Any comments still welcomed.

I thought the expresscard mini remote came standard with all models. I usually turn my notebook on using this

You can buy it for cheap on ebay if u want

I have another question, referring back to the Ribbon problems.
The power button, does it need to be replaced ? or is it the ribbon that is causing it to not function properly.
So in turn we need to buy 2 ribbons one for the power button and one for the speakers ?
    Thanks

See the dv6000 service manual here

I might just be your powerboard. See section 5.13 of the guide. You will see the powerboard will control ON/OFF button and the speaker cables are also connected to this
