I just got a dv5000z and i love it!
SOMETIMES, however, it lags when i multitask a little too much, but that's expected since it's still a pretty budgety computer.
anyways i noticed that when i go to the properties of "My Computer" is says:
HP
AMD Turion 64 Movile
Technoloty ML-34
787mhz, 512mb of RAM
Physical Address Extention
what's up with that? why doesn't it say "1.8ghz" or "1800mhz" or something? I'm pretty noob when it comes to this stuff so can someone explain this phenomenon?
edit: and yes i know that 1800mhz doesn't = 1.8ghz

It idles at 800MHz. The "My Computer" speed display isn't all that accurate so it said 787MHz. Do something CPU intensive and it'll jump up to full speed. Use a tool like MobileMeter to graph your CPU speed over time.
Whenever you can, I recommend adding more RAM. Swapping in a 1GB PC3200 Crucial SODIMM (see newegg.com, mwave.com) would be the preferred way to go. I have two in my dv8000z. -
As brian mentioned, the cpu speed wil idle at 800MHz. This is due to the 'Cool n Quiet' tech which will help in decreasing the heat output and help the battery life. Windows reports just the idle/current speed. Do anything processor intensive and you should be able to see the speed go up. Mobile Meter or AMD Dashboard will let you know the instantaneous clock speed rather than just the idle/current speed.

ahhh thanks guys, that makes sense.

i think i was misled by the fact that "1gb" of ram is actually 1024mb or something. see that's why i don't build these things!
Quick question...
