I have a Compaq F572 notebook. I notice the "volume" buttons on the keypad...how the heck do I get them to work? I tried "Shift" then "volume increase", "alt" and searched the help with no answer. I'm sure it's something simple if someone could answer this.

I simply tried pressing the "keypad key" that shows the "speaker" and nothing happens. Then I tried it along with "shift", "ctrl" and "alt"...nothing....

If you mean the QuickPlay row of keys along the top of the keyboard, their function is quite simple and I'll explain below. If you mean your laptop has a seperate numeric keypad with volume controls indicated on the keys, and those icons are enclosed within a box, then the FN key must be pressed first, then tap the control key while holding down the FN key.

For the QuickPlay keys, tap the little "minus key" to reduce the sound a couple of percent. Tap the little "plus key" to increase the sound.

Or you can drag your finger along the dots in between and increase or decrease the volume just like a slider control.

The button to the left of the volume is the mute button. Tap it once to mute the sound, again to enable it. The sound icon in the tray will change to show the device is muted.

If you have the integrated modem driver for Vista installed from HP or the newer update from Windows, the blue backlight will change to orange when muted as well, and back to blue when enabled.

In XP, the HP driver shows a volume bar in the monitor as well, but I haven't used XP with this laptop.

Thanks...I don't have "quick play". Must be the "FN" key and I'll try that when I get home.
