Alright... The MediaSmart and Calculator keys correspond to those in version 1.3.1 so you can use that. I'll get the other ones done today or tomorrow.

Thank you so much for taking the time to create this utility!

I installed it on an envy 15, which has a row of very annoying keys along the left side of the keyboard. I was able to disable the mediasmart and calculator button (which is often accidentally pressed instead of the CTRL button) by checking the box for calculator and leaving the program blank. Is there any way to map these keys to other keys instead of mapping them to launch .exe files?

also, if you are working on new versions, there are several additional keys on the Envy that it would be helpful to disable: (1) mail (2) web browser (3) print

thanks again for posting this here!

Of course it can be done, just didn't think that anyone needed it. They can be mapped to just about ANYTHING. :D Tell me what you want them to do, and i'll look into it.

Please run this program: http://quickplay.hostzi.com/detectkeys.zip and tell me your keycodes. Development has been slow lately indeed, but i'm still working on it. Especially now as exams are thru and i've been admitted in college, till college starts in October, party time. That means, new versions coming. ;) If you want it done quickly, a buck or two wouldn't hurt. That's why i put the pretty donation button up on the site at http://quickplay.hostzi.com Come to think of it, i don't think i have detailed how to use the detectkeys program in the FAQ... I'll add that now.

Here are the special keys on the Envy 15:

VK SC Type Up/Dn Elapsed Key Window
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    B7 121 d 23.28 F C:\Users\Admin\Documents\detectkeys\detectkeys.exe
    B7 121 u 0.31 F
    FF 142 d 10.80 not found
    FF 142 u 0.33 not found
    A2 01D d 12.03 Ctrl
    50 019 d 0.02 P
    50 019 u 0.31 P
    A2 01D u 0.00 Ctrl
    AC 132 d 7.99 M
    AC 132 u 0.33 M
    B4 16C d 9.17 Launch_Mail
    B4 16C u 0.25 Launch_Mail Windows Live Mail

I pressed them in this order when running detectkeys : (1) Calculator (2) Mediasmart (3) Print (4) Web Browser (5) Mail

Since these are in a row along the left side of the keyboard and I often accidentally press these keys when intending to press Ctrl, for example, ideally, I would like to be able to remap them to simply duplicate the keys next to them

    (1) Ctrl (2) Tab (3) Shift (4) caps lock (5) Tilde

Alright, that's not hard to do. I'll cook up something for you today or tomorrow. Btw... Do you notice that the print key simply sends Ctrl+P? Kinda silly if you ask me. I'm also bothered a bit by the web browser key which seems to be picked up as M... You don't want your M key to become a caps lock key, i'll see what i can do about that.

Of course you can keep the print key. Simply uncheck the box in front of its field.

I was pretty sure that'll happen. I removed the handling for the Print key, it's a quick and dirty hack but it'll work for now. Download again from here: http://quickplay.hostzi.com/beta/QPRemapper 1.3.2 for dv6t.zip

My Pavilion DV5 1110el's (this is the name for the Italian market) QuickPlay button can boot up the entire laptop (even after a complete Shutdown, not just Hibernation/Suspend mode), and the original function does boot Windows and immediately launch QP.exe after you login...
I wondered if your program could do the same?
I've already tried to edit QuickLaunch registry and replaced QP.exe with ehshell.exe (Media Center) but this way the PC will boot, but after Windows has been loaded it won't make MC start!! I don't know how the original QP.exe could have been started automatically...
Obviously if I press QuickPlay button AFTER Windows desktop has been loaded it does run ehshell.exe but I wanted a full replacement for the original QuickPlay function, able to boot up the laptop and run QP.exe right after Win has been loaded...

I wanted a solution to make MC start after you wake up the laptop from Shutdown/Hibernation and Windows gets loaded... just like the original QuickPlay.

    P.S.
To do this it seems to rely upon the "HP Service" and "hpqwmiex". If I disable these 2 services the QuickPlay button won't be able to switch on the laptop from Shutdown/Hibernation/Suspend...

    Hi,

I am using a HP Pavillion dv6000 CTO laptop. the Quick play buttons on my laptop are like:

    1. Quickplay
    2. DVD
    3. Previous track (media play button)
    4. Play pause button
    5. Next track
    6. stop button
    7. Mute
    8-9. Volume control bar.

I used your program to configure buttons 1&2. However after applying the settings buttons 3 & 4 are being assigned the applications which I selected for the quickplay and DVD buttons.

Am I using any wrong version?

Unchecking the calculator key box does not seem to restore the default function, using on a G62. Killing the QPKeys process does.

    Thanks for the hard work.

Great work! Huge improvement on what I consider to be a fairly awkward keyboard in several ways.

Any update on how to map a key to a QuickPlay button? Is it as simple as updating the remap file with some a code for the key I want used? Similar to a previous post, I'd like to map the normal key just to the right of each QuickPlay button on my dv6t.

This program is a great idea, I have a dv6 with the function keys on the left side of the keyboard. From top to bottom:

    1. Email
    2. Media smart
    3. Browser
    4. Print
    5. Calculator

Would it be possible to remap the email key to open yahoomail sandboxed and the browser key to open sandboxie? Thank you!

This works like a charm on my dv6t-Quad Edition. Just one question:

The media smart quick launch button when used with the regular quick launch program feature opens up a "menu" which lets me choose between different programs (namely the mediasmart ones: dvd, tv, webcam, etc). Is there any way that this feature can be implemented in QuickPlay remapper so I can hit the MediaSmart button and say have the option of opening WMC, iTunes, or other programs. Thanks.

A screen shot of what I'm talking about is attached.

I'm glad this topic is still alive. :) A new version has been in the works for... um, like forever now, but i keep on delaying it because i'm busy with other things.

All i can say is that it will have auto configuration (just press button, choose action, done), and it'll work with other laptops not only HP. ETA unknown (i planned it for Christmas 2010 but look, it's March), but it'll be done eventually.

    Hi Th3_uN1Qu3,
Thanks for this app. I read this thread and I see that are different packages for download. From where do I download the latest version? From the first post?
Second: Is compatible with my Pavilion DV5-1199el ?

Everything you need is here: QuickPlay Remapper home page

I haven't been exactly standing around doing nothing, so expect a big update to this. Not sure "when" as i have a problem with that, but it will be done. The update will address ALL compatibility issues - it'll basically work with anything.

Since I have a dv6, I downloaded the program from post #53 since the key layout for the dv6t is the same. I used the 'quick launch' shortcut icon from within the sandboxie program folder to remap using the browser button. After restarting and testing it, firefox opened but not within sandboxie. Here is the key layout for my laptop

    Key: VK/SC/Up or Dn/Key

    Launch mail:
    - B4/16C/d/Launch_Mail
    - B4/16C/u/Launch_mail

    Media smart:
    - FF/142/d/not found
    - FF/142/u/not found

    Browser:
    - AC/132/d/M
    - AC/132/u/M

    Print:
    - A2/01D/d/Ctrl
    - 50/019/d/P
    - 50/019/u/P
    - A2/01D/u/Ctrl

    Calculator:
    - B7/121/d/f
    - B7/121/u/f

Thanks for the report. To clarify - you say my program does not work within Sandboxie? If so, that is a limitation of the scripting language that i use.

This is going to be fixed soon with a keyboard hook DLL written in pure ASM. After exchanging emails with someone who had problems with his dv7 (IIRC), i found out that in his laptop, with both AutoHotkey and C++ (using the windows API) the Quickplay button appears hardcoded to the V key, which makes typing a "V" launch the app assigned to the quickplay button. He noted that even with the official software, launching QuickPlay also types a "v" sometimes. It's amazing to what extent they tried to make it customizer unfriendly.

This app is going to solve a lot of problems people are having with these stupid keys, thanks for doing this.

Any chance of mapping key strokes instead of .exe's. My tablet would really benefit from some page up, page down buttons on the bezel. (I tried creating an exe for a keystroke but ended up headbutting a brick wall)
