Ok, I own an Hp DV5000z, and I recently formatted it to install XP pro over XP Media Center. Now, my Quickplay and Remote doesnt work, so can I install the drivers? And I heard quickplay was based on linux or something? Anyways, can i do it?

Why XP Pro over Media Center? They're basically the same thing with a couple of networking features disabled. Networking features that are generally useless to 99.9% of the home user population.
Did you have Quickplay 2.0 or 1.0? With 1.0 you'll need to wipe your entire HD, run the 1.0 CD first, and then install Windows.
I don't know about your remote. Mine never required drivers.
Did your system come with (or did you order?) a Windows DVD? Mine came with a clean Windows DVD and a second DVD that lets you pick and choose what software you want to reinstall. It also came with a third disc for Quickplay (1.0) and another disc for Lightscribe software. -
i have the cd's if you need em
you can only get the drivers from these cd's you cant find them on hp's site and theyre like 80 bucks -
Long story, but I needed it because of networking and such. Also, ive got the 3 or four DVD's that came with it. I have no dea which quickplay I have or HAD, but yeah...

Well, as I said, to 99% of users, those two networking features shouldn't even be a problem with MCE. Even if you're in a business environment it really shouldn't affect you.
What discs do you have? Did it come with a Quickplay disc? If not, then you'll have to call HP and harass them (not literally) until they send you a Quickplay 2.x disc if that is what you had. They've sent out discs in the past to some people, so you should be able to get it yourself. If you have a Quickplay 1.x disc, then you'll have to wipe your entire HDD, partitions and all, and run the Quickplay 1.x installer. Then fire up your Windows disc after that is done. Quickplay 1.x is completely independent of your Windows installation. http://www.notebookforums.com/thread141817-15.html Theres a good thread regarding Quickplay 2.0. I personally prefer 1.x myself because it's independent of Windows and I can have any OS or number of OSes installed and still be able to use it as long as it is installed at the begining of the drive.
For your Quick Launch buttons.. I'm still not sure. But you did install it from the update on the website? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ery=dv5000z&os=228&dest_page=softwareCategory It really shouldn't make a difference that you're using Pro instead of MCE. Did you talk to HP about this? -
Hi Carsonauto,
How many HID devices do you have listed under [System],[Hardware], [Device Manager], [Human Interface Devices]? I have three devices listed. I figure the keyboard, the touchpad, and one mystery device. -
Xp MC is Pro with some media goodies on it. Why did you switch -
Ok, dont worry about my MCE, I NEEDED Pro, I NEEDED it, end of story.
Now on to HELPING, beachesandmusic, I tried that HP update thing, and it says it isnt compatible with my software >.>
So how can I tell which quickplay I had? -

I don't really think you needed XP Pro
But anyway, if that software isn't working then maybe you NEED to have MCE installed for it to work?
Also, for Quickplay, I don't have Quickplay 2.0 so I can't tell you what it's like (maybe someone else here can?). But Quickplay 1.x was very basic. You were greeted with a black screen, an HP logo and a warning that said "Please Insert a DVD or press the music button". If you pressed the music button you were greeted with another somewhat basic screen that allowed you to play CDs or MP3s from the Shared Documents folder. That's about it. Also, Quickplay 1.x only took up a little over 200MB of space, where 2.x requires a couple of gigs. -
Alright, I got a nice screen with neat graphics and such yatta yatta yatta, but what about my remote, do I need IR drivers?

So yeah you had Quickplay 2.0. You can either get it from HP or get it from that thread.
The remote.. is it the little travel remote that slides in the ExpressCard slot? Mine works without drivers in Windows. However I have the Quick Launch application installed and MCE as well. It also can power on the computer (or shut it down in Quickplay). So if you you can turn the system on with your remote but it won't work in Windows then you probably need Quick Launch and/or Media Center installed. It'd probably be best if you called HP though. Because I'm just making guesses based on my experience with my system. -
Bump
Remote works, so dont worry about that,
and Ive figured out that I used to have QuickPlay 2.x
How can I re-Install it? -
