Sometime in the past week I have not been able to adjust the volume on my system if I have any MS Office software, or Internet Explorer running. It all works good if just the desktop is showing, but if Word 2007 is running the box goes into some sort of spiral where it just locks Word and the QuickTouch window up.
Sometimes I am able to get to the desktop, and close the offending software (in my example Word 2007) which immediately fixes things. It is a bit of a pain because when I am typing in Word if I accidentally touch the volume slider I am done for at least 10 minutes if I cannot get into Task Manager to kill the Word process.
My machine is the dv2840se with Windows Home Premium x64 installed. For additional software I have:
- MagicTune Premium (for when I have my monitor installed)
- Logitech 64 bit drivers
- Daemon Tools
Turning off that extra software does nothing to stop the behaviour so I cannot see it influencing what is happening. HP has suggested that I do a reinstall from the recovery drive, and I plan to do that this weekend. The only thing is - how can I stop this from happening in the future?

Hi
Uninstall Quicktouch and all traces of it
and install the following QuickLaunch button drivers http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=au&lang=en&os=2093&product=3593147&dlc=en
Its the same thing as quicktouch except it doesnt have the graphic user interface that pops up on your screen. The onscreen GUI is whats causing the locking/slowdown -
1. Click the Vista start icon, bottom left.
2. Type RUN in the Start Search box, ENTER.
3. Type MSCONFIG in the OPEN: area, Click OK.
4. Click on Continue if asked.
5. Select the StartUp Tab in the System Configuration menu.
6. Remove the Checkmark from the HP Quicktouch On Screen Display item.
7. Click on OK and Restart if required.
Reverse above procedure to restore to original if desired -
thanx deeastman, that worked for me,
