i somehow got a hold of it, then i installed it. i clicked the exe file and it installed, and then it wanted to reboot. i rebooted, and now its stuck with a black screen, the hard drive continuously working, and my CPU fan blaring loudly. its been 45mins. is this normal?

it doesnt seem normal, but i just wanted to make sure.

yes i created an X: drive with over 1GB (2GB just incase, i know it is supposed to be 1028MB) and left it unformatted, but QPDP formatted it to NTFS automatically.

i really hope i didnt mess up my perfect XP installation........ but that seems likely.

Most likely what happened is that Quickplay doesnt have the necessary drivers to run on the dvx5xx series. If you did notice during the installation, it extracts drivers onto a folder(dont remember the exact name) but it extracts the drivers and since HP used to offer QP direct with only the dvx0xx series, it contains only those drivers. So, no wonder it failed to boot into QPD.

AH yes, theres my answer. thanks. im so stupid. i knew this before, thats why i avoided it, but while uploading the new drivers to my guide, i found a copy of QPD and so i tried it. big mistake, lol. i cant believe i forgot about the SATA drivers.

well i tried fixing and rebuilding my MBR and my partition tables, etc. and that didnt work. so now im going to try to install XP on another partition and salvage what i can. i have 30GB of stuff

any idea of how i can fix my MBR or whatever once im into XP on another partition? it was telling me "Operating System Not Found" but when i went into recovery manager from the XP CD, all my work was there

Before trying to install another copy of the OS, try using the recovery console in the Win XP CD. This should allow you to fix the MBR. You could try 'fixmbr' and/or 'fixboot' commands in the recovery console to set your boot to default settings. Hopefully that should fix it. if not then a better alternative would be to use a Linux live CD and copy data from the partition to any external drive. This would avoid the need to install the OS twice.

Has anyone discovered how to resolve the SATA driver issue to fully boot QPDP 2.3 on a dvX5XX model?

This problem was also referred to earlier in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=151265 with no resolution.

I really want to make QPDP function on my clean XP install!

    PLEASE HELP!!

    Thanks in advance!
