I just did the "upgrade" (clean install) of Vista from the HP supplied disks on my DV2100T and I noticed that it didn't keep the little partition for the Quickplay app. When I press the DVD button it just boots Windows.

Is there any way install Vista and keep the Quickplay app?

    Thanks.

yep, same problem here. I have dv6000t with Vista pre-installed. Everytime when I press the QuickPlay or DVD button (while the laptop is off), the system just turns on like I pressed the Power button and boots up Windows, then after I logged in Windows, QuickPlay or DVD software would load afterward. Weird.

Yea. That happens to me as well. With XP it worked great. I can use the other buttons but not quickplay or dvd for anything. And they don't work while the computer is on. The only way the button works is when the power is off and then it just boots windows which is the whole point... not to boot win.

This behaviour is the result of some new conceptions in Windows Vista. It's the HotStart technology: boot Windows and just afterwards start wanted app. But if you want go back to the previous solution, it's possible. You should just install QuickPlay Direct. Before it you have to prepare min. 1GB of free space on your hard-drive. It is important to not format the place, it should be unallocated - only in this condition, QuickPlay installer will detect it as a place to install itself.

    If any questions, ask...

Yeah, I heard it's something with Vista too. I never really used quickplay without being booted anyway so it won't be a huge loss for me. But atlesat my upgrade comes on Monday :).

You will have to use the QP installation files from the SWSetup folder. The restore discs are only useful if you want to put the system back to factory state. Its not useful for anythig else. Also QP direct(bootable) part of QP might not even work with Vista. Vista uses a new version of QP and HP dropped the bootable part. One more thing, the latest BIOS also is not compatible with QP direct, so you will have to downgrade the BIOS and possibly install XP to get back QP direct.
