The sound seems incredibly quiet for my dv6000t. I can't do any more adjusting - everything appears to be at its highest, yet i have to wear my headphones when i watch a DVD because I can't hear the dang thing very well from the laptop speakers. Of course the headphones are quiet as well but they're at least right next to my ears. I've downloaded songs and they play loud enough. And I've tried several different DVD's from different manufacturers - all quiet. And almost all videos I watch on youtube are pretty quiet as well. I've had friends ask me if I can turn up the volume when I show them a video and I tell them it's already as high as it goes. Is this an issue with ALL newer HP laptops or am I just not doing something right?

    illmatic,

thanks for your help. i downloaded the app and it did make a difference. i wonder why i'd have to download something to get those changes. strange that HP would build an "entertainment notebook" that couldn't play DVD's adequately right out of the box. i still haven't found anything that can beat my old Compaq laptop (bought new back in mid 2001). it came with JBL speakers with two tiny little woofers. it really created a much deeper sound. and they were LOUD, too. must have not been an efficient way to build laptops....i don't know. anyways, again...thanks for your help. i think i'll be able to ditch the headphones now ;)

It should be able to play right out of the box. If the audio isn't booming when you've made sure all output audio is up and you've got the latest drivers there is a problem. Volume Control max and Wave max, then people should be asking you to turn it down!

Send it back and get a replacement!

d'oh. i opened up the volume control and moved the Wave slider up and what do you know.......louder. i didn't realize it would have that kind of effect. HUGE difference! and now with AC3, it's TOO loud, lol. thanks a lot guys. i still i wish i had sound like my old Compaq. i guess i took that thing for granted. but then again, i guess we don't exactly need to be blasting our speakers when we're waiting in an airport or writing notes during class, haha.
