I posted this over at r3000 forums, and they told me to go here and ask. So....here I am!

Anyways, I did do a search for this, but I haven't seen this exact issue, at least in the ones I looked at.

I was using my R3000 on Tuesday afternoon from the battery no problem. I shut the lid thinking it would just go into hibernate or whatever like it usually does. I went to power it back on and it was completely dead. I plugged the AC in and it powered up fine. The battery is at 6% and not taking a charge. When I first turn the laptop on, the battery charge light goes on for about 10 seconds, then turns off.

Do I need a new battery? I think I do. It powers up fine without the battery in also. Just thought I would get the concensus here before I drop $100 on a new battery.

    Thanks.

Weird. Be4 getting new battery, try discharging your existing one to <6% and see if it will be charged back to 6%.

Also, you could find an owner of a notebook with the same battery and see how it behaves in yours.

The reason I sugget all this hassle - it looks like your MB could be the problem, you see?

I can't discharge the battery anymore. It just shuts off if I unplug the power.

    That's what I'm afraid of..... :(

Most likely a battery issue.(especially since you said that it works fine with A/C power). In order to rule this out you'll need to test the system with another battery and see if it solves the issue. Only then can we say it is other than a bad battery.

I had a similiar problem on a few notebooks of mine. Mainly on my HP pavilion ze4345, and dell latitude. On both of them I just kept trying different things. On the dell, I just drained it as much as I could, then it took full charge, and on my pavilion, I opened the "battery optimizer" program exclusively for HP notebooks which can be downloaded here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...product=308119&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-22772-1
However, it may be exclusively for my series of notebook, but I think it's just HP exclusive.
Also, I do have a rather "odd" problem w/ a battery on my latitude....whenever I put it in, the cpu seems to underclock to like 50Mhz, lol. Like, you move the mouse, then 20 secconds later you see it jump. And of course the battery will not charge...

That download did not work on my laptop. Thanks though, I appreciate it.

My battery is now down to 3% from 6% according to Windows, still not taking a charge. I may have found someone at work who has the same type of battery so I can switch it out and see if that is the problem for sure.
