This question is probably only for those of us with the AMD 64 proccessor but I'm not sure if this is the only model effected. I have to start off by saying that I'm very happy with my computer and it dose great on games even with the 440 go GPU. Here is the problem.... on a normal notebook computer when you unplug from the wall if you hold the mouse over the battery Icon 2 things are displayed, 1. the battery % left the other is 2. the estamated time left ex. 2 hours 45minutes So on my computer and others with the same proccessor for sure the computer tells you the % of battery left but not how long window's estamates it will last. I've contacted tech support about 3 weeks ago and they didn't know why and had me uninstall and reinstall many windows conponents which was a real waste of time. I also contacted mirosoft who seemed more educated and tried a few fixes and finally determined its probably a hardware problem. Right now I've been waiting 3 weeks for HP's concerned team to contact me about this issue they are "working on it" if anyone else has an answer for this I'd really like to know. Its not a hge problem but its one of the windows features I find very useful.

Mine neither. I was curious too about this question. But probably AMD didn't supply the power consumption data to Microsoft so the latter hasn't made the calculation yet. Just a guess, Microsoft may release a patch later when more people feel inconvenience.
But this doesn't bother me too much since that time is only an estimate, depends on what kind of work you have the computer do, it varies. However you could get an estimate by yourself, say play it for a couple of hours and then get a sense how long the battery can last with you particular operation.

I also used Mirosoft tech support for this issue they determined it was a hardware problem, its not in there opinon anything to do with the AMD chip. I have estamated my battery life the way you suggested I think it last 3.5-4 hours like others have said. I do like the windows estamater because if your playing a game or watching a movie it moves the time down because your using more power and if your just surfing the web it will make the time longer, so its just more convenient I guess. I just like this expensive machine I just bought to work 100% correctly not 99%

No. Bluetooth has largely replaced IrDA, so be sure to select that option.

Not sure if this helps but I just pulled the plug on this zx5040us and all it showed was 100% remaining, no estamated time left.

    It is a P4 2.8 ghz.
