    Hi guys,

    I recently purchased a Compaq R3000z

    Athlon 64 3000+ 1.80GHz, 15.4" WSXGA+ Widescreen, 256MB, 60GB HD, DVD/CDRW, 64MB GeForce 440 w/ 1394 & 5-in-1, modem/NIC, 802.11b/g wireless, IEEE 1394, 3 USB 2.0 ports, Built in 5-in-1 reader, 12 cell battery

And I am running the CPU at 100% most of the time during this break in period. And I've noticed the bottom can get pretty warm and the air coming from the side vent can become almost unbearably hot. I was wondering if this was normal or if this was a concern I should address?

That's normal. That's the very well designed cooling system doing its job. I've yet to be able to overheat mine.

You might want to experiment with ClockGen for nForce3 motherboards. I'm able to run my Athlon 64 3200+ at 2GHz @ 1.3V instead of the standard 1.5V, which cuts power consumption dramatically. (Or you can try overclocking, but undervolting is much more practical on a notebook). Disable PowerNOW! (set the Always On power scheme instead of Portable/Laptop) first if you're going to try it. YMMV of course.
