    Hi Guys,

I have an R3230CA same as US model. I have upgaded the 2x256 to 1x256 and 1x512. I want to upgrade the other 256 to a 512 dimm of the same crucial I bought but where is this dimm located. The first one was easy but I have no clue of the second.

Next I want to replace the dvd/cdrw with a decent dvdrw +/- dual layer drive, if not dual layer that is fine as well. Can anyone point me out for the particular model drive I want to look for. I tried ebay but anything there was not for my model.

I just want a dvdrw drive and a GB of ram and I am good to go. Love this notebook so far and this is a great site

The second RAM slot is located under the keyboard...

Do remember that changing the RAM located under the keyboard voids your warranty.

NEC8x double layer drives fit into the laptop. Generally any generic laptop drive will work. But the main difference especially in the case of NEC will be that it will have a flat face plate rather than the curved one in the laptop.

As you can see the NEC works & fits the laptop(ZV5000Z is the HP equivalent of the Compaq R3000 series). But its not an exact fit. But that's just small niggle IMO.

If you want a Compaq drive then probably ebay or similar such places are the best bet. Ordering directly from HP will cost a lot and not worth it...

Yeah I would prefer a drive that matches the notebook. I find the square shape bezel ugly.

I have searched ebay with no luck still looking
