I am currently looking at getting a customized R4000 off hpshopping.com, but I am slightly dismayed by the lack of a 7200 rpm hard drive. Does anyone know what type of interface the hard drive options use (IDE, SATA, etc). The Hitachi 7200 rpm HD uses SATA and I was wondering if it would be possible to replace the existing HD.

The Hitachi 7k60, the only 7200RPM hard drive at the moment, uses IDE which is what the Compaq uses. There is a bit of a shortage of them at moment, but I do not think HP has offered them on the r4000. Hitachi has announced the 7k100 for this summer which will come in SATA and IDE flavors. One possiblity would be to get the smallest slowest drive, purchase the 7200RPM drive and install it yourself. It is not that hard to do. They part that is a drag is you have to re-install everything. Throw the old drive in an external usb case for extra storage. You don't need speed for storage. The 40GB version is going for around $150 on Pricegrabber for the places that have it in stock. The 60GB for around $190. Good Luck.
I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.
